Engagement Photographer Second Thoughts

Mallory, on October 20, 2019 at 6:56 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 7
We had an engagement session booked for Oct. 13th but we changed it to Oct. 20th for person reasons. The day comes, we had to run an errand so we let out photographer know, she was fine. In the end we ended up rescheduling for Oct. 27th due to storms in our photo session location. No issues at all.

But I really cant wait to do these pictures. She's done photography for 5 or so years. I seen some of her work, not a lot with engagement and weddings, but she's done them.

Im just having second thoughts with our photographer ever since we booked our session. Just because i want them to be at least close to perfect and amazing. I've had bad experiences with photographers for other things, so im a bit anxious each time I hire a new photographer. Since we keep rescheduling our day, it makes me more anxious. Ive considered looking at other photographers for our engagement photos, but i dont know what to do.

Personally, I learned my lesson with hiring someone new to the business. My florist had been doing weddings for about 2 years. She ended up doing a lot of things wrong and I highly regret using her. My husband never liked her, but she was doing my brother's wedding too and they said she was great to work with. It sounds like your photographer doesn't have a lot of experience doing engagement or wedding photos which would make me nervous. If you are having second thoughts, I would probably hire someone else. Your other option is to have her do your engagement photos and if you don't like them hire someone else.

I was in a similar situation. I was going to have a friend from college do our engagement pictures. She and I got along great and I had originally thought I would try to save money and have her do the wedding, depending on how the engagement pics went. I ended up getting so nervous about her doing well enough with the wedding (she’s only doing photography on the side right now) that my mom ended up deciding to push me to get a different photographer. I still had the engagement pictures booked with her, but like you, we ended up rescheduling a few times. Most recently I ended up cancelling the engagement pics with her and decided that for time purposes, we’ll just skip them altogether (or I’ll use my own camera and tripod because I’m a weirdo). I definitely think choosing somebody you’re more comfortable with is the way to go!

Hi Mallory! I'm sorry that you are feeling anxious about your photographer.

I think a really good place to start would be to think about why you booked this photographer in the first place. With five years of experience working in this capacity, I would imagine that they have ample experience in the field to take your engagement photographs.

What is it that is making you have second thoughts? From my understanding, neither time that your shoot has been rescheduled was at the fault of your photographer. Is there anything that has happened since you booked this photographer that is making you nervous?

I totally understand that if you are not feeling comfortable and confident about your choice in photographer you should find someone you are happier to work with. Do you have your eye on another photographer?

I just dont feel confident in my photographer. She has little work shown for engagement and weddings. I'm always checking her site to see if she's updated and I've asked for some more from her but she hasnt sent me any. I understand she gets busy. But, she was the first photographer I looked into and i dont see me using her for our wedding if im being honest. I have my eye on another local photographer from the 417 magazines. Ill be meeting with her later this week.

Well if you don't feel comfortable or confident hiring her for your wedding, that is totally understandable. Do you think you would still like to use her for your engagement shoot or are you considering this other photographer for your engagement shoot also?

We just met with the new photographer tonight and we gind her more professional with pictures, she's pretty comfortable being around(we are really shy with new people, but our first time meeting her we felt comfortable instantly). Shes also has experience in the pictures we are looking to take and her style is what we are looking for! She's more pricey but i strongly believe her work will be worth it.
