Engagement Photos Cancelled

Meghan, on November 13, 2017 at 1:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I just have to vent that my engagement photos were cancelled last minute today and I am fuming mad! Our photographer emailed me a 11:50 saying he had to cancel because he has a bad cough and cold and the weather is going to be cold today. FYI it is going to be 41 degrees and we live in buffalo so it's not going to get any warmer! lol I had already gotten my hair done and had to cancel last minute on my MUA. I used time to get out of work early last night( I work night shift) so I could rest before getting ready. I had my nails done and got a spray tan a few days ago. I know things happen and people get sick but to email a few hours before is just so disappointing! What will happen on the wedding day? He asked if we could reschedule but it is hard with my FH's and my schedule. He's a CO who is currently out of the area and I work 12 hour nights. Am I being too harsh to ask for my deposit back??

Nah, he knew the risk when canceling the DAY of your scheduled engagement photos. It isn't a good reflection of his ability to come through on your wedding day. I'd probably ask for my deposit back too.

Honestly? I'd be more pissed if he showed up sick and got me sick than cancelling a few hours before. He was probably hoping to get better. I think you're blowing up a little too soon. Give him a chance.

Does your contract say your deposit is refundable? Because if it doesn't, you're shit out of luck and he doesn't have to refund you.

Is it complete inconvenience to you both, yes, and that stinks! But things do happen, I would not request my deposit back and give him one more change. I would be upset as well if he showed up and got me sick.

Oh no. I'd be pissed too and ask for the deposit back. Does your contract say anything about cancellations?

I would be pissed if he canceled after I had my hair done and got my nails and a spray tan...... I think he should reimburse you for the deposit BUT at the same time he works in a job that doesn't give him time off or sick time. If he really is too sick to work he should have cancelled before hand

I don't see how he would get anyone sick. Don't shake their hands, take pictures, and go home and rest. It's just hard to believe he woke up and was like "woah sick all of a sudden", if he knew a cold was coming on, inform your clients that you may potentially need to reschedule. A same day cancelation is unacceptable.

Would he cancel the day of over a cold? As long as you use good hand hygiene you won't get sick around people that you aren't having contact with and there's no reason for us to hug or shake hands. He gave me his phone number to call him if I wanted to discuss it more with him. I'm going to wait until tomorrow when I'm not so freshly mad. Lol

I would call him now, see if you can reschedule something right away.

I know how you feel. I took off work and got my hair and makeup done for my photos, and the photographer ended up canceling because of the weather. I was mad. Really mad. But he was very accommodating for rescheduling and even though I was pissed, he was right - canceling was for the best.

I would sleep on it before asking for your deposit back, and see how well he does with rescheduling. I was feeling very salty and spiteful the day we were supposed to have our pictures, but it was mostly built up anxiety and disappointment. In retrospect it wasn't a big deal and the pictures came out great.

That's super disappointing. I would definitely get your deposit back, which shouldn't be hard since he hasn't even taken your engagement pictures at this point, and find a new photographer. You have time. Pictures are the only thing you'll have left after the wedding, besides your FS of course, and I wouldn't want to worry about my photographer cancelling at last minute.

There is a difference between him cancelling because of weather and cancelling DAY OF. Engagement pictures do NOT take all day to take, so it really surprises me that him being sick he could not even tough it out for an hour or two.

He could have thought it was the cold and its actually the flu. I get the flu almost every year (knock on wood), and I feel like total death. When I first started getting it, I always thought it was just a bad cold.

Sometimes you can't help stuff. You may be able to explain to him that you had hair done/tan done, and see if he is able to give a discount at all... You never know.

I feel you. It was insanely hard getting ahold of our photographer to set up our engagement pics and then the day of she pushed it back an hour because of cramps. But we just got our preview of pics back and they look great! Everything worked out!

I hear you on the schedule thing. I am from Buffalo too and it is DAMN COLD and FH is also a CO (he is finally transferring closer to home this week). I would be pretty mad, but I am not sure I would cancel just yet. Try and see how he is about rescheduling and making it up to you and then go from there. If it is difficult then I would ask for a deposit, if it's easy I would stay with him.

    Not. Cool.

I'd explain all the money spent preparing for the shoot and request my deposit back.
