Engagement photos - Nervous

Honey, on October 12, 2020 at 2:49 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12
My engagement photos are on Thursday and I am really nervous. I don’t really like when people take my pictures I always feel like I look awkward in them. I’ll be doing them with a professional but I am still nervous.

Any tips on how to be less nervous and more confident.....
Thank you!!

I actually just did my engagement photos yesterday and I had this same feeling! I was nervous it was going to feel awkward or stuffy, but it didn’t at all! Our photographer was like our personal hype woman with how many times she said how perfect we looked, haha! She gave directions that were simple and easy to follow without making us feel dumb. She’s shooting our wedding, too, and the time we spent together yesterday was perfect - we got to know her, she got to know us, and I’m beyond excited for her to shoot our wedding!
My biggest advice is just to relax. Remember that it’s supposed to be fun and there’s nothing you can do to mess it up! Your photographer is there to make sure you look wonderful and capture this incredibly happy time in your life. Also, keep in mind that the directions may seem silly, but your photographer knows what they’re talking about! Trust them and enjoy the time getting to snuggle up with your significant other and have your engagement documented! Best of luck!

Wear something that you feel comfortable and confident in! Also, maybe either go out for a drink beforehand or get your nails done the day of or anything else that helps relieve stress, so that you go to the session feeling more relaxed. Don't focus on what you think you look like in the pictures. Instead, try to stay in the moment and be yourselves. Your photographer will guide you through poses and such, so trust them to setup photos that you will like. It might start out feeling a little awkward, but as you go through the photo session, you'll likely feel more comfortable in front of the camera. When my fiance and I took our engagement photos, we ended up laughing for most of the session. After our photographer gave us some tips on how/where to stand, we both felt a lot more comfortable in front of the camera, and the rest of the photo shoot was so fun and laid back.

It will be awkward at first, but you'll get more comfortable as it goes on. Also, it's good to do this if you're nervous about it, because then you'll be a lot more comfortable having pictures taken at your wedding.

I felt this way about our engagement photos too! Our photographer encouraged us to take the day off work or leave early if possible to have time to destress and clear our minds before the photos. We were meeting her at a park by our house for the first location. My husband and I decided to do a mini date and got there early with a picnic and bottle of wine. It really got us in that lovey mood and the alcohol took the edge off. Our photographer brought along a Bluetooth speaker and had played our choice of music. It ended up being so much fun! I will admit there are a lot of photos where I am looking away/laughing and that’s just me nervous laughing and being awkward lol but they came out cute! So when in doubt laugh or kiss 😊

Oh It's so awkward at first, but you quickly get the hang of it. LOL don't be like me, who decided to wear 6 inch pumps to a highly wooded area with lots of rocky terrain. I think I nearly fell a good ten times and both my photographer and my fiancee had to help me out a lot to get on the rocks. On the bright side, you get some nice photos.

Nonetheless, your engagement shoot is a great way to celebrate your engagement.

This is an amazing picture!! I’m having my pictures taken in Central Park! Definitely not as rocky! Thanks for tip. I’ll definitely be wearing low ankle boots.

We’re also taking the day off. I’m actually getting my makeup done about an hour before! Hopefully this does the trick and I feel relax!!! Thank you.

So, it's the photographers job to make you relax and to look your best.

That said, don't "pose". They will direct you what to do and so on, but a lot of people think getting your photo taken is "posing", when really, it's relaxing and being yourself and letting the camera catch that.

Breathe. If you are that nervous, take a deep breath in through your nose for the count of 10, and then out, through your nose, for the count of 10. Lower your shoulders. Unclench your jaw.

Then, focus on your FS and just be the two of you.

    Super adorable and romantic, right?

....I was cold. It was February in NYC. I'm literally burrowing into DH to get warm.

    But it looks super cute!

My hubby to be is like this. honestly try to forget the camera is there and get lost in each other. the photos will reflect your love rather an "posed" images. So many of our photos turned out better than expected with us laughing and being silly.
