Engagement Photos Yes or No?

Francesca, on May 20, 2021 at 1:15 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 15
So my FH and I got engaged in February. This is a second marriage for both of us. His first wedding/marriage was just a simple elopement. Mine was the whole big wedding thing. My FH is really excited for us to have the big wedding which I am super excited about. Buuuut we are stuck on whether of not to take engagement photos. They weren’t a thing when I got married the first time so I didn’t do them. Now they are a thing and I am stuck. While I think they would be a wonderful memory, I am debating with the whole “is it worth it” thing. Can anyone tell me if you had them done, do you think they were worth it? And if you didn’t, do you regret it?? Thanks in advance.

We had no intention on getting them done but our photographer package came with them at no extra charge so we went ahead with it. It was nice to get to know the photographer and get used to the whole posing and how your photographer works. I’m glad we did it

This exactly - what April said! We haven't gotten ours done yet, but our photographer includes a 30 minute engagement session when we booked him! My FH and I don't have any nice pictures together so its something I want to get done. We were going to get ours done April 2020 in Arizona but then COVID happened so after that we really had no intention on getting them done.

This is 2nd wedding for me. Didn’t do engagement photos the 1st time & didn’t miss it. My photo package came with engagement session & I want to do it because (a) it gives you an opportunity to get to know/work with your photographer & I think that’s valuable (b) I don’t see how it’s a bad thing to have MORE photos with my FH! Tbh, if I had to pay a lot of extra $$ I definitely wouldn’t do it. But you can use the photos on save the dates & as part of your decor.

We had engagement photos and I am very pro getting them done. We had a BLAST. It was a really fun afternoon getting to know our photographer and we have a bunch of memories because we all just acted goofy together and really clicked. I'm so happy to have the photos in my house. We had never had professional photos taken before, so that was our first time, and I think it helped us relax a bit with someone posing us so that maybe for our wedding it will go a bit smoother.

We didn't get them done. Our photographer offered for a like $100, but honestly we didn't see the point. We're not big picture people though.

I didn’t do them and don’t regret it. I have no need for extra awkward photos of myself haha. If it’s included in a wedding photography package , I see the value of it just to get to know your photographer , but other than that....not for me. But I’m just not that into posed photos , so it’s really all personal!

On the subject of regret though, you can always hire a photographer and do a photo shoot for any reason you please ! Smiley winking

We did them and I’m so glad that we did! It gave us a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera with each other and with our photographer before the big day. My husband (fiancé at the time) had a million questions about what to do, and our photographer gave us direction and made us look and feel so natural. I think it’s definitely worth it!

Photographer included them in our package, honestly most do these days. The pictures turned out amazing and I'm glad to have them. Highly recommend getting a photographer that you enjoy talking to, it made it a much more enjoyable experience than posing in front of a camera has the potential to be.

Thank you everyone for the great advice. Luckily I have a photographer who has basically done most of my family’s major events. I think I will talk to him first and see what he has to offer. 😊

So glad we did engagement photos! It gave us an opportunity to get to know our photographer, practice posing, and get comfortable in front of the camera. Plus we had some awesome photos to use for our save the dates

We got them, and I'm pleased we did - we wanted to feel comfortable and confident with our photographer, know him a little better, and like we knew what to expect on the day. In addition to that, we have a significant height difference - 45cm (almost 18 inches) and while we don't want to hide it, we wanted the photographer to have a chance to work with that before the day, so he would at least have some idea of how to approach it.

Plus... you'll never be in this exact place and time again. I think a lot of people fear it coming across as 'extra'. But no one needs to know you've taken them, if you'd rather not. It's a nice thing to have copies of to look back at one day.

Oh! And a final point - I know quite a few people who had a difficult, diva photographer. I was anxious that we get along well with ours since we'd be spending so much time with him on our wedding day, so our engagement shoot really just reinforced that we'd chosen the right guy.

I’m very happy that we went through with ours. We don’t have a lot of professional pictures together and this was an opportunity to have some.

It also was an opportunity to see how well we worked with out photographer, get a sample of his work and put my make up trial to good use.

Our photographer had an engagement/wedding package so it was a lot cheaper this way, and it was 100% worth it to me. We had a little mini vacation, went to OBX for a weekend, and got fabulous photos that I love. It also gave me a chance to see our photographer in action before the big day. Worth it !

We did them and I’d agree with previous comments - provided us a chance to get to know our photographer as it came with the package, gave us some professional photos we didn’t have and we used them for our Christmas cards/save the dates.

We had a close friend do them for us, and it was so much fun! If budget is a concern but you still want them done, see if there is a family member or friend who would be willing to offer them as a wedding gift.
