Engagement photos: yes or no?

Hi guys! How many of you got engagement photos taken? If you didn't, did you regret it? I am looking into booking photographers now, and one that me and FH really like has a package that includes them, but the photographer is also willing to give us a discount if we don't want the engagement...

Hi guys! How many of you got engagement photos taken? If you didn't, did you regret it? I am looking into booking photographers now, and one that me and FH really like has a package that includes them, but the photographer is also willing to give us a discount if we don't want the engagement session. I was never really that fond of the idea personally, but I am unsure if I will regret not having them done. What's everyone's thoughts? Love them or hate them?

I am so happy that we did! They are some of my favorite photos of us, and we are using them for lots of things in the wedding. We used them for our engagement announcement, save the dates, shower invites, wedding reception slideshow, and photo guestbook. I would definitely recommend having them done if your budget allows. You won't regret it!

We are doing them. I had originally planned on doing them for STDs but we also decided to cut the STDs because of said nightmare posts. I still want the pictures though because we don't have any professional photos together and I want some before the wedding pics.

I'd say yes, mainly because not only is it more memories, but it also lets the photographer see how you and FH are in front of the camera. And it gets you more comfortable in front of one.

We didn't want to do engagement pictures but we did do them anyway. My FH and I are not comfortable in front of the camera so it ended up being a good thing because we got to know our photographer and he got to know us and how we are and how to shoot us the best possible way. I thought of it more as a "trial" run. We got to test out poses and now I have a great idea what to expect with wedding pictures!

We didn't do them. We picked a save the date without a picture we figured even if we got them we would just replace the ones we did hang with wedding pictures anyway. We opted not to spend the extra money.

Our engagement photos were part of our package so we did them otherwise we probably would not have done them.

Omg we almost didn't get ours done bc my fiancé hates pictures so much, but I'm so happy we did! They came out amazing. If you haven't booked your photographer yet, try sugar magnolia photography. Shes been awesome so far. And the engagement sesh was included in the package deal

We did them and they got lost... So it was fun to do them, but I'm not going to redo them. Honestly, idk what I would do with all of those pictures of us.

Eta: I did bridals with our wedding photographer (obvi, not using the one who lost out engagement pics) so I got to work with her before the wedding, and I really liked her.

Don't like engagement photos at all, so false and staged unless he hired a photographer for the moment he actually proposes I think they just posey

I can't even wait for my engagement shoot! I think they're fun and as someone else said, memories. It's also included in our wedding photo package so that makes it an easier decision for us.

I booked a family photo shoot. The photographer is going to take several poses of FH and I alone. We will consider that engagement pictures.

We didn't. I didn't see the point. We weren't doing STDs or putting an announcement in the paper, so what would we ever use them for? (Our thank you cards were based on the design of our ketubah, or formal Jewish marriage contract, rather than being photos of us.)

The only good reason I've seen for them is that they give you a chance to test out your photographer before the wedding. If you don't like the engagement photos, maybe you would select someone else to do your wedding photos. You can decide how much that applies to you. (It didn't apply to us, because we had a DW.)

It gives you the chance to form a working bond with your photographer in a more casual light environment, which gets you more passionate about their work. Plus the photos provide content for reception decoration or slideshows, as well as save the dates etc. Or sign-in book. If you don't care about any of those things, there's no reason to do it. But personally I think it's worth doing, I've never seen anyone wish they hadn't for the little bit they save.

+1 to Jay and Jessica's comments above. You'll not only give your photographer a chance to get to know you and how to communicate with you, but it will get you excited about taking the best photos you've ever seen of yourselves, especially together. After reviewing your engagement photos, you might get some ideas yourself of some images you'd like to create at your wedding.

Not doing them. FH was adamant about not doing them and we both aren't fans of being the center of attention. Honestly I don't think I will regret not having them. It really depends on what you personally think of photos.

It really depends on a few things. Are you doing STDs or invites with photos? Then I would suggest looking into it. We aren't doing pro pics for engagement because I just never really had the desire. The STD I like has spot for a photo so we might just take a nice one together.
