Most couples wear clothes they already own. You can check out Target, Ross, Burlington, etc. They dont have to be fancy or matchy as long as you're presentable and comfortable.

I just copied this from what our photographers suggested for our engagement shoot. We ended up with a combination of some clothes from our closets (flannel, jeans, lace overlay, camisole) and new clothes from Amazon and Express. I’ve included pictures.

    • Try to avoid too much black or white. Any pop of color is always great! For example, if both of you are wearing all black, the camera won’t be able to separate you and your bodies will look blended together like one black blob, LOL!

    • Say no to busy patterns like small closely placed polka dots or small closely placed checkers or stripes (large patterned shirts are ok as well as flannels). Busy small-patterned clothing sometimes creates an affect called a moire pattern and is distracting in photos. Also, these patterns are difficult to photo shop if we needed to edit something out of that piece of clothing. Here is a picture example of a moire pattern: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/jXEgnRWRJfg/hqdefault.jpg
    • Coordinate Color! Color really makes a photo pop, most surroundings are generally neutral so any type of color is welcomed and looks great! Also don’t wear matching outfits, we don’t want you two to look like brother and sister now do we? Smiley winking Many coordinating examples are below on our Pinterest board.

    • Accessorize & Layer! Chunky jewelry, jackets, vests, cardigans etc. all look great and add style, this goes for guys and gals! The more the better!

    • Make sure all clothes are ironed with no wrinkles. Wrinkles show up like crazy in photos and are nearly impossible to photoshop out afterwards.

    • Guys: Please make sure your hair is cut fresh, your neck isn’t hairy, facial hair is freshly groomed and fingernails are clean. Also, moisturize if possible, dry skin is another tough thing to photoshop afterwards.

    • Girls: We highly recommend getting your make up done for your session. Our cameras are super high definition and every detail shows. Most of the time your make up artist that you are using for your wedding will do a pre-wedding make up trial for you, and its an awesome thing to take advantage of for your engagement session!

    • Make sure to be equally dressed. For example, sometimes the guy is dressed casual with jeans and an untucked polo shirt, but the girl will be in something super classy like a cocktail dress and heels. So it really shows in the photos when one person is dressed up more than the other. It looks a bit “off”. So make sure if one is dressing up that the other does too and vice versa.

    • And last but not least, think outside of the box! Smiley smile Get creative with your outfits. Don’t be afraid to do something different that will add style and flare to your photos! We have put together a Pinterest board with some really great dressed couples. They aren’t wearing every day clothes that they would normally wear, they put thought and planning into their outfits and it really shows, check em out! This is what we did. My FH wore slacks and a white button down that he already owned. I bought my dress from ASOS and plan on wearing it again. We didn't do the matchy look but wore colors that complimented each other.

We wore a mix of things we owned and a few new pieces.

For our casual outfit, I wore my favorite top, jeans, and boots. DH wore jeans and boots that he already had, but bought a new flannel.

For our more formal outfit, I bought a dress (from Lulu's) and he bought a sweater.

I used outfits that I purchased from Ann Taylor several months before that I just happened not to wear yet.

I bought a dress from Lulu's and he wore something complementary and in our wedding colors (not necessary to be wedding colors but we loved it for our save the date)

We found complimentary outfits at Banana Republic! A little pricey but they do have some
Good deals around this time of year.

I shopped at Ross for my engagement photos and focused on Autumn colors, since these pictures were taken during October.

We did the same and wore things already in our closets! The only new thing purchased was my dress, and I ordered it from Amazon.
