It’s entirely personal preference. Some brides get hair/makeup trials done before they go to get engagement pictures taken. Others prefer to do their own. There is no right or wrong.

Totally your call. I would suggest thinking about the type of aesthetic you’re going for in the pictures. Is it going to be casual, outdoorsy? Or is it going to be more dressy and glam?

This is up to you. I’ve seen people get theirs done and some who don’t. It just depends on your vision for the photos. Even if you decided to do a soft glam it would be okay versus a full face.

Up to you. If you envision putting these photos everywhere in your house or in albums, maybe go for professional. Since we wanted to get Save The Dates out by August 2021 but we live in sweltering Texas, our photographers agreed to split our session in 2. For the first session in July 2021, I used the big chains Visible Changes and Sephora. They were ok but ultimately I wasn’t 100% satisfied with how my hair and makeup turned out. By the time our second picture session came around in October, I had booked my hair & makeup boutique for the wedding, so I decided to bite the bullet and use them for my additional engagement photos. I looked WAY better the second time around, so I saw the cost as worth it.

Sometimes brides use their makeup trial with their makeup artist for engagement photos. But, it's personal preference.

I did my own and the photos turned out great. Ive always hated the way i've looked when getting my makeup done professionally

Okay! that's super helpful, thank you ladies! I don't think I'll be able to fit a hair and makeup trial in before, so I'm just going to diy it. I'm not huge into heavy makeup anyways.
