Engagement photos/party?? help

I got engaged in June. We didn't have an engagement party because we would have to travel or our guest would and because of covid. We did engagement photos a month after the engagement.

Congrats on your engagement! Your ring is gorgeous. My fiance and I got engaged October 2018. We had our engagement party March 2019 and our photos were done just this August. We had originally planned a 2020 wedding but changed everything to 2021. There's no real time frame. As long as it's before your wedding, your fine.

No we decided not to have one. We knew many of our loved ones have concerns with COVID and would refuse to come.

I think considering how 2020 has gone, you can have your engagement party whenever you want. As far as photos go, if you plan on using them for your save the dates, then make sure you schedule them a month or so before they need to be sent out so you have enough time to get them back and get them printed. Congrats! Your ring is lovely!

I got engaged in August of 2018 when I was 31, and we did not have any sort of engagement party. If we were a little younger or more of the party type, we might've, but I really didn't miss it.

If you want to have one, I don't think there's a strict timeline considering the circumstances.

As far as engagement photos go, you can get them done whenever! But as mentioned above, if you want to use the photos for you save the dates, wedding website, etc., plan accordingly.

We didn't get our engagement photos done until November of 2019 -- more than a year after we got engaged -- but it was still plenty of time to get prints, save the dates, etc.

Congratulations on your engagement! We didn't have an engagement party but we did take engagement photos. We didn't take them until 8months after we were engaged and we used them for our save the date magnets.

Engagement parties are 100% optional and most people do not have them. They are regional though. You're much more likely to come across them in the NYC area than elsewhere where they are not done. Also the couple does not host their own. But it is typically within a few days/weeks after the engagement.


Engagement photos are standard with photography packages. It gives you a chance to work with the photographer and get to know each other in a working setting. Typically they're done 4-6 months before the wedding.

No we are not having an engagement party because it's not customary in our area or social circles. We will have engagement photos taken though.

Congratulations 🍾! My parents at hosted a 30-guest engagement party brunch at the Hilton 3 months after our engagement to celebrate and announce our destination. I believe they usually are supposed to take place soon after and with covid, I would probably just forego the concept. We did our photos that month at a destination which was about 1 year prior to the wedding. Have fun!!!

Hello! Congratulations! I got engaged November 2019. We had an engagement picnic party on October 10th 2020 to celebrate the engagement and the one year kick off to our wedding on October 10th 2021. It was perfect, especially since our wedding theme is fall.


Despite COVID, an engagement party worked out for us because it was an outdoor, very low key event with all of our friends being in the area so no one had to travel. I just reserved a picnic shelter, got some fall decor, catered some food, bought alcohol and people just came and had a good chill time celebrating us.

We are doing our engagement pictures now we’re 10 months out. If we even get to have a engagement party we are planning 6-8 months before the wedding

Congratulations hun, your ring is beautiful! We didn't have an engagement party and really didn't think about it. Literally skipped the idea and just jumped right into wedding planning lol. I'm not really sure of the point of them other then people coming together to celebrate you guys; but that can happen at the wedding lol idk. We did take engagement pictures and I'm happy that we did. It's fun to dress up and you get practice for the big day. You can take them whenever you want though. Also check in with your photographer and see what timeframe they suggest. We completed ours pretty late in our engagement but that was due to covid.

We skipped an engagement party. We did our engagement photos in March before our October wedding. We had a much shorter engagement though, at only 10 months. If you plan on using your engagement photos for save the dates, just make sure you get them done in time to get them back and have those printed.

We got engaged on NYE '18, and since that was AT a party, we did not have an engagement party.

We took our photos in February '19, and got married by August '19. But we moved fast, so if you want a party - go for it.

Even though the vaccine is out, though, I'd aim for a warm-weather, outdoor party, just for safety.

Under normal circumstances, I’d probably skip an engagement party (we’re skipping all of the other stuff and only doing the wedding). We’re set for 10/08/22, so we might do a small local picnic next summer just as an excuse to see our friends.

We had an engagement party, this past august! It was a way of our parents and our bridal party all getting together! I loved it! We called it “ I DO BBQ” it was perfect and very casual! We made it how we are! Had it catered by a famous bbq chicken place, played outdoor games and had a bonfire at night! We had engagement pictures too, great way for my fiancé to feel comfortable in front of the camera before our big day! You do you girl! Whatever you feel comfortable with!

So we celebrated with them already, so I feel the real celebration with everyone else would be the wedding. But I’m 100% on the same page as you! Congratulations! I also got engaged on Nov 20! Gorgeous ring! We haven’t taken our pictures yet, probably March time frame. Not sure about engagement party. And our wedding will be early 2022.
