Can you show us a pick of your outfit with the hat and scarf next to it or even a picture or description of the colour, pattern, or material. I think it should definitely coordinate or compliment what you are wearing in colour but not match (like blue and mustard). I am not sure how casual or formal your outfit is or what your styles are usually like. For hats, there's the casual newsboy, beanie, or floppy hat. There are also different ways to wear the scarf. Sometimes men tuck it in like this picture. For a dressier look with a topcoat, jacket, or peacoat, you could do a fedora, porkpie, or bowler.

Does he like beanies? I think beanies look awesome on guys (preferably not the super baggie in the back ones, but to each their own lol)

Maybe navy, mustard, tan, or forest green. Like a chunky loosely wrapped scarf or another infinity one. As for the hat, I think most will work. Most of the casual styles or a fedora. Just preference really.

Beanies are also a good idea. Maybe you can go hat shopping together and try on lots of them together
