Engagement Pictures

Caitlin, on April 24, 2022 at 4:57 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 5
Hi all! My fiancé and I are getting our engagement pictures taken in a couple weeks. I’m pretty nervous because I hate having my picture taken but really wanted to do this because we have been together for so long and have no nice pictures of us. With this being said, how did you deal with the anxiety of getting pictures? Also we are using the same photographer for our wedding as well, is there anything that should be discussed about the wedding? Thank you for the help!

I hope it goes well! I totally feel you. We got engaged February last year and never got engagement pictures. We’re both very anxious people and even though we’re about to hit 8 years together we rarely take photos that aren’t selfies. We’re also self conscious about our weight but now that we’ve lost some we finally decided to take some (I’m also super not photogenic). We’re getting married in October so it’s a bit late but in June we’re meeting with the photographer for our wedding to get some photos done. I’m pretty nervous too!

I'm so with you. We got engaged in 2020 and are just now going to be getting our pictures done. The last time I had professional photos done other than a quick headshot was probably my senior pictures from back in high school and I hated them. I'd say wear something that makes you feel awesome. Maybe schedule a hair appointment that day so you feel really good about the way you look. Other than than, focus on your partner, make each other laugh, and think about how excited you are to get married.

I am personally excited about our engagement pictures but I can understand how this could provoke anxiety. I would just concentrate on your partner and smile until your heart is content!

A good photographer will be able to naturally direct you and make you feel comfortable. Maybe reach out to them ahead of time and explain your fears. My husband had the same concerns and my photographer essentially told him "no one I shoot is a professional model." Which really eased his mind. Just focus on having fun with your fiance, dont be too concerned about the perfect pose or the perfect facial expression, candids are the most beloved shots anyway.

Elysia has great advice. Remember that at the end of the day… they’re just pictures! Worst thing that can happen is you don’t like them and have a good laugh about it, and best thing that can happen is you have a great set of photos taken which will ease your stress for wedding photos.
