Engagement ring guard, but not as wedding band

Shawn & Kelly, on January 29, 2017 at 9:35 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Hi ladies! So I have decided to add a ring guard to my engagement ring, but it will not be my wedding band. I already have my wedding band chosen. Would there be any reason not to go ahead with wearing a guard with my ering now since it's not going to be my wedding band?

Do you have any photos of it all together? I wouldn't wear it before the wedding, but that's just a personal preference.

Do you have any pictures? I don't see a problem with wearing the guard before the wedding because you have a separate wedding band. But this is really just personal preference. Some people even begin to wear their band before their wedding ceremony. I think this takes away from the "specialness" of the ring a little bit (plus you have the rest of your life to wear it), but since your guard will not be your wedding band, I think it's okay to wear now.

Hi Daniella, the first picture is my ering. The second two are the guards I'm trying to decide between, and last is my band.

Is there a point to the guards? Googling shows me what they are but not why they are a thing. I personally like wearing just my engagement ring till the wedding but if there's an actual reason for the guard, I guess wear it? Eta: just saw your pictures. I think your ering looks beautiful by itself.

@FutureMrsLott, I totally agree on what you said with the band. That one is special and I wouldn't want to take away from that part of the ceremony and what it represents.

@Bee, guards are meant to surround the engagement ring and provide some protection to it, but some also enhance the ering too.

I have a solitaire and enhancer as my engagement ring and I have a separate wedding band. However, H bought the enhancer to act as part of my engagement ring. I wouldn't have gone out and bought the enhancer after the fact on top of buying a wedding band. But if that's what you want to do then I guess there's no reason not to wear it since it's not going to be your wedding band.
