Engagement Ring Insurance

Liz, on September 5, 2021 at 12:56 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

Which companies provide this and what's the range of what it costs?

We added my ring to our home owners insurance. We found it was much cheaper than taking out a separate policy with a different company

We added ours to the renter's policy that we had then, and it's on the homeowner's now. I would call and ask about a "jewelry rider" - the costs are going to depend on your insurance company, the size/appraised value of your ring, and how much else you want to put on the rider (I have a bunch of other pieces that needed added)

I was shocked to discover how much my husband pays for ring insurance… obviously depends on the value of the ring but it can easily be hundreds of dollars a month. I have the rest of my jewelry through homeowners but I wear my ring at all times so it is never at home without me.

I wear my ring whenever I leave the house as well (or at least I did before COVID) and it still falls under homeowners - if he's paying a huge amount in addition to your jewelry rider, I would call your insurance and see what it would cost to get it covered under the homeowner policy. It shouldn't matter at all that it's never home without you.

It’s because it’s above a certain value. That’s also why other jewelry is covered but the ring isn’t - I promise the research has been done 😊

You intimated in your original post that it wasn't covered because you wear it all the time ("but I wear my ring at all times so it is never at home without me"), which is not/should not be a factor and is, in fact, what I was replying about. If they won't cover it because of cost, then that's a different kettle of fish entirely.
