Engagement Ring Shopping for Tiny Hands

Jennifer, on September 11, 2021 at 1:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
When my fiancé proposed, it was completely on a whim. We stepped into a random antique shop, bought a ring from the 1940s, and gave it to me. Now, we are shopping for my official engagement ring.

I have really tiny hands. In general, I’m a tiny person (4’10” 95 lb). My fingers are slender and tall for my size. I’ve been reading online that because of this, I don’t need a huge carat at all. That bigger sizes would actually make it look gaudy on my hand so that’s a plus! I can get away with a smaller carat.
I’m thinking of getting a pave, halo, pear shaped ring. For those with tiny hands like me, would you mind sharing the carat and ring size you wear? My ring size is like a 4. I’m thinking 1 carat, at most, but I can’t visualize what that looks like.
We are going to go ring shopping next weekend, but thinking of just ordering from James Allen.

I would definitely go ring shopping so you can try to get a visual of the size diamond compared to your finger.

Agree on going to the jeweler and have them float gems the size you’re thinking over your hand. That will give you an idea on size. And remember if it’s a halo, the sparkly part will be bigger than the main diamond, so that could have an impact, too.

Cut also influences how big of a stone you need, so try to find a jeweler who can float different sizes of pear stones over your fingers to help you visualize.
    Good luck and happy shopping!!

I’m also a smaller human. My ring size is 4.5 I have a pave band with a 1 ct center stone. I think it’s just the right size any bigger would definitely overwhelm my finger and feel clunky. In fact the 1 ct almost feels like it’s much much bigger than 1 ct because of the size of my finger. I also recommend talking to a jeweler about a dainty band that would also Hold up well over time.

Thank you so much! This really helps! I agree the 1 ct may be too big for me especially if I get a halo one so I probably even need less than that? Haha I kinda like that I don’t need anything big because of my tiny hands. Beautiful ring by the way!

Omg my ring size is 11! Bigger than my husbands (10.5). He always makes fun of my “baseball mitt hands”

My Ring size is 4.25, The Opal (center stone) is a 6x8 mm stone (which can be from 0.9 - 1.25 ct if it were a diamond, depending on how it was cut) If you look closely you can see the halo around the opal, but this ring also has a bunch of different sized baguette diamonds as well as small rounds to create the shape of the ring.

I knew I wanted something with a unique shape, so it would be a bit bigger but the first thing I said when I put it on was "oh my god its bigger than I thought it would be!" But I LOVE it so much!

Hopefully you can visualize the size with the halo and such!

Good luck! When you find it I'd love to see what you pick!

I’m a similar size and my ring size is 3.75 I have a 2ct center stone with two side stones. It’s personal preference for sure - mine takes up my whole finger basically. I think just under a 1ct oval halo would look great on you.

I always thought the same too! I figured big carat sizes would make the ring look gaudy for us with tiny hands & I told my fiancé my thoughts on that. However, he ended up getting a 2 carat stone anyways with a pavé setting & I actually loved the look of it! It wasn’t bad at all. My ring size had to be customed to a 2.9. Everyone has their preference so definitely try the different sizes on if you can & I agree that having a halo may alter some things as well.

Smiley smile Our hands are about the same! My size is 3.75
When I tried on the tear shaped stone, it looked big on my finger.

I ended up with a .85 ct stone.

My hand is a 4.5, and my center stone is 8mmx6mm (it's a sapphire so is more dense than a diamond, so carat weight won't help much):

there are so many factors when choosing the right sized stone. It's not just whether it overwhelms your hand, but also what you like the look of, and what suits your lifestyle. I know for some people it would be important to them that their ring sat fairly flat, moreso than the face up size of the central stone.

But putting that aside, for me personally, I don't think I'd have wanted any bigger if my stone had a halo. I do think that in this three-stone setting, my central stone probably could have been a bit bigger before it started to look like a gaudy doorknob, but of course, that point is a bit subjective, lol!

I do think that it might be best to go and have a look at some first to see what your limit is!

Hi, im 5feet and my ring size is a 5 he went with an oval shape and its beautiful since i have prety skinny finger . It's a half carat and since im not a fan of big jewlery it worked perfect. I believe a carat would be good for you but you should go look and try on somethings so you have an idea of what you like

I tried on a few rings this past weekend. I think a carat would be perfect if I went with a solitaire. If I did a halo, I’d have to go with like a 0.75 carat because the halo adds considerable size.

You can absolutely wear a big rock. The trick is to have a setting that doesn't stick up as high, so it's not as clunky looking.

I opted to get a non-diamond ring. This is a marquis cut blue topaz that's just under 5 carats. I am a 4.25 ring size with long fingers.
