Engagement Rings: Expectation vs. Reality!

Did your vision for your engagement ring match up with what you actually got? FH and I got engaged without a ring, so I showed him a photo of what I wanted. He ended up getting a totally different style I wasn't expecting, but I absolutely love it! What I envisioned What FH got me!

My FH knows how much I love opals and rubies way more than diamonds. I thought maybe he would get me a standard petite diamond ring. When he proposed with a ring with heart shaped opal and ruby that says Our Love Eternal, I just melted! I adore heart shaped stones! Here's my engagement ring and wedding band.

From working in jewelry for so long I had such an all over the place view of what I wanted. I am grateful for my friends design of my actual ring because you can see my inspiration board contained quite a variety 🤣

my poor husband would have been lost without them

I originally wanted a French pave, setting with a simple stone. I got a French pave, just with a cross cross. I love how unique it is!! The first picture is what I wanted, and the second is what I got!

I thought I wanted a single stone small vintage style ring. FH and I never talked about rings much because he said from the beginning he'd probably just design something. All I told him then was I wanted the band to be silver colored. He picked out this gorgeous blue diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds, and the blue diamond enhancer to go with it 😍 always said/ thought I would never want a colored engagement ring but from the second I saw it I loved it!

I didn’t think I wanted a yellow gold/diamond ring. I thought I wanted a big beautiful silver/diamond ring. And I did try on several. We went to two jewelry shops. The second one was a less expensive place and surprisingly they had much more beautiful jewelry. For a fraction of the price. I really liked a locking ring with three pieces at first (omg it was gorgeous and so unique) but when I tried this one on it made me feel the same way I felt when I tried on “The” dress. So I knew it was the one. He was definitely surprised it was much more simple than what he though, and much cheaper too, he went in planning to do payments on a 5k-10k ring. And went out with it paid in full. It was on sale too, originally 1300$ we got it for 700$. It’s an engagement and wedding band set. He also got his ring, which was a plain gold band for 375$. I love my ring and it has an amazing sparkle to it, especially right after having a tan 🤩 😂

He is definitely a keeper. He pays attention to the little things. When we first starter dating, he picked up that I love make-up. So for one of my Christmas presents for our first Christmas together, he made me homemade flavored chapsticks. I thought it was so sweet, I barely used them because I treasured them 😊

I love your ring too! They are gorgeous!

Omg! He’s so sweet! I’m jelly of that hahaha, my FH isn’t very good at expressing emotion (at all !) but he does little things to show me, like he does this ridiculously stupid dance randomly (even in public) just to make me laugh. I love him, even if he doesn’t express it the same way I do.
You are lucky to have a man so sweet and tender, cherish it !!❤️

I love this forum! It’s so cool to hear everyone’s stories. I would send my FH engagement rings that I loved to give him ideas. I really wanted a very traditional ring. Simple band and a visible diamond. I would send him circle diamonds. I loved how they looked and didn’t fall in love with the other shapes. Little did I know he already had my ring during this time and picked out a beautiful oval diamond with a simple band. He said he knew what I wanted but he really wanted to be able to pick my ring himself. In my opinion I’m happy I didn’t go pick one with him because it was awesome seeing what he picked and how he knew it was my taste. Love my ring so much, he did so good 🥰

I picked my ring out YEARS ago, bookmarked it, sent the bookmark to multiple friends, and told DH that I'd found something I liked.

Eventually one of said friends just dropped the link in his messages, said, "HERE. GET THIS ONE. ...NOW."

And it's the one I have.

It's even better than I thought it was, and I get complimented on it all the time.

    Gotta love Etsy, right?

My ring is even more beautiful then what I imagined. (Two different angle pictures.) My FH has a good friend who is a jeweler, and he chose the setting that I tried on and loved. 😊
His friend was able to score a very nice quality center diamond. I think it’s absolutely beautiful, and I love it!

I don't have a picture of what I was expecting, but I had hoped for a halo type of some sort. Instead I got a beautiful dainty intricate side detailed ring that I absolutely love and wouldn't trade for the world.

I always thought that i wanted an opal before i met him but then that changed and i was kinda lost lol

i knew i didn’t want a diamond and i love unusual shapes so we researched different stones together and we both fell in love with mystic topaz and he ended up picking out a hexagon one 💕

Before I ever got married I'd always loved the vintage look with fine details and a main center stone. The first time I got married my ring was a simple solitaire in a very thin plain band that was his grandmothers. I had it reset into a thicker band but it still wasn't really what I'd envisioned since we were broke right out of college and got what I could afford(I paid for the new setting). After that divorce I was adamant on never getting married again but always drawn towards jewelry that has the more vintage look. When DH proposed the ring he picked was PERFECT. It has pink stones and the vintage feel with the Tiffany 6 prong setting for the center stone. I have seen soooo many rings and always love mine more than any I've seen. He knows me so well.

It's a little hard to tell in the picture but the detail around the center stone comes down to a pink sapphire on each side
