Entertainment Ideas and Fun Stuff during Cocktail Hour

A&J, on December 10, 2013 at 4:03 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

Since my cocktail hour will last two hours, I am trying to find a way to keep the guests not only satisfied from drinking and eating, but also keep them entertained. I really need some ideas!!! HELP!!!

One idea is to for the guests to play cornhole. But, we don't know if that is suitable during cocktail hour. Wedding will be outside and there would be quite enough of space on the grass to set it up.

What do YOU think? Any other ideas?

A wedding I went to last summer was outside and there was a long cocktail hour on the property. Since there were a lot of younger people (late teens, 20s) there one of the most popular things was a game of volleyball. They set up a low net and had a ball and people just joined and came and went. It wasn't a serious or structured game... just fun. You could also get a bowling set (even just a cheap toy one) and have people play bowling. Those are more casual and active activities. If your wedding is more formal or you think your guests would not be into that, you could always have some sort of trivia set up. Maybe questions that the guests have to then lift the paper, or something, to find out the answers (ie: Who wanted to be ______ when they grew up? Answer: The Bride!). These could be sprinkled around or in one spot and guests can learn more about you guys and keep entertained.

    Hopefully those help...

I was just at a wedding on a farm where they had lawn games during cocktail hour. People were pretty dressed up but they still played. There was definitely cornhole. You could also do ring toss games, ladder golf, bocce. I would do things that wouldn't involve too much running around unless your wedding is super casual like the one Erin described. I have attended a picnic wedding where the bride changed into jeans and played Volleyball as well so whatever you want goes!

Oh! I just remembered. I have also attended a Medieval themed wedding and during the period before the cocktail hour they had Medieval court jesters performing - juggling, etc. That was fun!

Ours is only an hour, but I was thinking about putting a few mad libs on the cocktail tables for fun. They'd make a nice keepsake later too.
