Estes Park honeymoon ideas?

FutureMrsS, on January 30, 2018 at 4:05 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 8

Has anyone honeymooned in Estes Park, CO? We are thinking about going during the summer months. Do you have any recommendations of places to stay or things to do? Should we stay in a hotel or in a cabin? We love being outdoors and would love some suggestions!

My cousin got married there last year, it was gorgeous! I definitely recommend going to the Stanley Hotel either to stay (but it's pricey) or stop by for a drink- it's the hotel that inspired Stephen King's The Shining.

I saw lots of campgrounds nearby there too so if you're wanting to rough it, there are plenty of spots. I'd visit websites or call the visitor's center for more info. I was there for just a weekend and don't have much other information for you.

Drive through Rocky Mountain National Park, its a cute little town to walk around. Definatly try and spend one night at the Stanley, you can also do tours.

I’m getting married there in September! We’ve always loved going up there. There are plenty of cute little cabins to stay in right on Fall River.

I have spent 1-5 months each summer season in Estes since I was 14, and lived there all last year as well--one of my favorite places ever!! I worked at the Stanley for a while over the winter and it is great to visit (I mean, Dumb & Dumber was filmed there after all!) and I would absolutely recommend treating yourself to an evening in their bar and restaurant (the bar is beautiful). I have however heard the rooms are not super amazing. . .It is an older hotel so just something to take into account.

Fall River Road has a LOT of good lodging options, lots of condos and cabins, and the road leads right into Rocky Mountain National Park as well. My FH's family spent all their summers there growing up as well and his parents always book a unit at Riverwood on Fall River which is comfortable and like your own two story townhome. My parents love VRBO and have also found some great places to stay through that.

On the other side of town out Highway 7 a little ways is Mary's Lake Lodge which is a nice place to stay and also has a very tasty restaurant and nice patio with a great view.

For a quieter dinner I would drive out to the Dunraven Inn- good Italian food and a more intimate atmosphere.

Take a little drive out to Glen Haven to the General Store and get some cinnamon rolls- seriously some of the best I've ever had. In town there is also "Cinnamon's" which have delicious maple pecan rolls- but you need to get there early, they usually sell out before 10 or 11!

As others have said, of course drive through Rocky Mountain National Park. Trail Ridge Road is the highest road in the US I think, and the views are awesome. TONS of amazing hikes to do of course! Sky Pond is beautiful, and you'll hit a few other lakes on the way up if you don't want to do the whole thing. Outside of the normal park, on the way out to Glen Haven there is the "Twin Owls" hiking area- I am not a huge fan of the actual hike to Gem Lake, but the views of the Front Range from there can't be beat. For something a little more difficult I would recommend Chasm Lake at the Long's Peak trailhead.

Keep in mind that Estes is SUPER busy during the summer...and a weird little bit of info- if you are planning on going this year I would avoid the weekends of July 7/8 and August 4/5. The summer camp I worked at for many years has their "final weekend" those dates and HUNDREDS of families come in to visit and town is even more insane! I would also research when festivals are happening in town (there is summer rodeo and a Scottish festival and maybe a few others) so you can plan accordingly.
