Etiquette with Stylist Change

Lossaluv3932, on May 7, 2022 at 2:55 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 2

I booked a company that provides MUAs for my wedding that is coming up within two weeks. I had a great MUA (let's call her Stacy) during my trial. I was happy with my results and I paid in full in order to book her (it was somewhat last minute so we were past the point of a deposit).

I just learned that Stacy had to promptly leave my area of the country and company, and now a new MUA (let's call her Anne) will be taking her place. I looked up Anne's work on social media and I am concerned. To be frank, there are some glaring makeup issues in these photos (obvious skin tone/foundation mismatch, extremely heavy and misplaced contour, 'beef lips', etc.). I showed these photos to others in my bridal party to see if I was being nitpicky but they all agreed with me and some are even asking if they can get their money back. They will not offer me another trial due to the extreme proximity to the event (they just aren't available) and I cannot get my money back.

What pointers do y'all have in dealing with maybe providing tips to the MUA to reflect my needs? Some photos were labelled "natural makeup look", but they definitely do not look natural to me so I'm not sure where to go from there.

That stinks. I would bring lots of photos and make sure your appointment is early enough that if you want her to re-do it several times, she has time to without throwing your day off course. Also, make sure you take a photo before she leaves and check out how it looks in the photos. I also wouldn't be afraid to "politely" tell her what you don't like about some of her other work (ie: i'd like something even more natural than this, I like this smokey eye, but not so dark, etc). Seeing her own work might help? Good luck!

Did your former stylist write down the names of all the products you chose? If so, then her skills + pictures + critique should be good. If starting from scratch, insist on a trial with this company and pay for it. You want to be happy. I once had an event makeup artist called in, and was unhappy on the sallow foundation and the cheap makeup and eyelash options. It was fine for a gala, but for your own wedding, you naturally want more. Good luck.
