I ordered our cake topper weeks ago on Etsy. Based on the seller's shipping policy, the item was supposed to arrive today at the ABSOLUTE LATEST. So sure enough, the cake topper has not arrived and is still in China. I contacted the seller at 2AM requesting I be refunded since:

A. They are outside their own shipping timeline and,

B. There is no way the cake topper will arrive before the wedding

He, of course, says he's going to contact the postal office, etc... Then refuses to issue a refund. I went ahead and opened a formal claim with Etsy asking for a refund and the seller has a week to respond before I can escalate it even further. But I don't understand why the seller won't refund my money since there is absolutely no way the cake topper will arrive by Friday, especially since it is still in pre-shipment status IN CHINA!!! It sucks because FH really wanted this particular cake topper and now, we're forced to order a generic topper off of Amazon due to time constraints.

My Mother is an etsy seller. She had an issue just this week where the post office scanned her package as if it was delivered to our house instead of picked up. The person who bought it started flipping out sending her nasty messages that she sent it to the wrong address. My Mom called the post office and they said there was a mistake in the scan and they were able to provide her with updated tracking information that wasn't showing up on the etsy order. The man got his item in three days as he was told when he purchased even though etsy still reported it being at our house. So that's something to consider as a possibility, but also you ordered your cake topper very close to your wedding date. If you purchase items from another country they normally can take two weeks to a month or more to come in so that's not the fault of the seller. Example: when I order from amazon prime on their U.K. website, the website might say 2 days for prime shipping, but since I don't live in the U.K. my orders take closer to two weeks.

I don't know if this could be the case with your item, but I ordered something from Singapore, and none of the shipping services would update my items location, which my seller had warned me of. My package was delivered on a Tuesday afternoon, and I just happened to be home, but my status update STILL says it's waiting to be shipped. If you needed to sign for the package when it was delivered, it could be sitting at the post office..

This happened to me with ordering advice cards from someone in Britain for our wedding. The seller made a lot of excuses saying the postal office screwed up. At first I didn't believe her... but then she made a whole new set and sent them expedited shipping to me and I got them a day before our wedding. A week later, I got a ripped package in the mail with a note from the post office saying part of my package was missing. Turns out she (the seller) was telling the truth about having sent the first set of advice cards on time! I sent her a picture of the ripped package and post office note so she could file a claim. Maybe your seller isn't at fault! But I do think he or she should refund you, or at least send a new item with expedited shipping! Good luck!

@Terri, the tracking info is for the USPS

@HisBeauty, he was responding initially. Even said he'd contact the postal office and then nada! This is when I decided to open up the case. I even asked again if he had gotten any information from the postal office. However, it's like he doesn't want to reply to this question....

I've ordered stuff on eBay from China before and they give you such a broad delivery time line (like 4-8 weeks). And I've never had an item not arrive by the absolute latest estimated arrival time. Usually they arrive somewhere in the middle. It's very disappointing. The day before the wedding is when I will have the ability to escalate the issue to Etsy.

You contacting him at 2am your time, depending on the time zone is 2pm his time. I don't know post office hours there, but I imagine it'll take a little bit to get an answer from them.

Like I said, I get the frustration, I do. I've had packages lost before. I'd order 2-3 months before the wedding if it was coming from international seller. That way I have enough time to not panic. I'm sorry there doesn't seem to be answer. I hope Etsy is able to help.

I'm expecting a package from China now, tracking seems slow to update. I won't panic. If it's not here in a few weeks, then I'll contact the seller.

Have you tried to find the same cake topper from another seller? Perhaps domestic?

That really sucks. I've haven't ordered off Etsy before. I generally have the worst luck in online ordering. Currently in process of getting refund for my cake topper that not only was sent to wrong address but it was picked up.
