Eucalyptus alternatives…in Hawai’i

Kapua, on July 26, 2021 at 4:26 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9
Hi all 👋🏽
So we just started planning and I have this vision of greenery everywhere. And my initial thoughts were eucalyptus. But after going to an expo event and speaking with a florist, I’ve learned that it’s actually banned to be brought here in Hawai’i because it’s not great for our native plants. (Unless we find some ourselves.) Which is fine, but it kinda bummed my whole idea, but maybe I’m not thinking out of the box enough. Does anyone have suggestions for great alternatives that aren’t fake and still just lots of green and good for hanging.

We are using a decent amount of smilax greenery for our wedding. Maybe that is an option?

Do you have a local florist? I bet there are some gorgeous tropical palms and ferns you can use!!

There's also tons of other greenery that's great for wedding décor besides Eucalyptus (olive branches, leatherleaf ferns, lemon leaf, myrtle, Israeli ruscus, salal, smilax, huck) - check out the greenery options on sites like Flower Moxie! 🍃

Thank you so much for the different suggestions! I just got bummed I literally found bridesmaid dresses that the color was named eucalyptus LOL. I just love the look of the leaves that aren’t shiny ya know. Anyway I still have lots of time to figure it out. I know it’ll all come together eventually!

Palms, monstera, ti leaves. Talk to a florist in the area.

Thanks. But that’s not really the vibe I’m going for. I’ve grown up and live here and I’m surrounded by all that normally. My vision was just eucalyptus and now I have to find alternatives. But yes definitely finding a florist to help us with this.

I would just contact a florist in Hawaii to see what greenery they recommend and is allowed. They'll know best!

I know you said no fake, but if your heart is set on eucalyptus, there are some really real looking plants online that are fake, and you won't have to settle for something else!
