Ever forget your engagement/wedding ring at home?

KarenO, on January 9, 2018 at 10:19 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 26

I feel so naked today. (Hope I'm allowed to say that.) I accidentally left my engagement ring at home. It's only been an hour, and I've checked my hand at least 6 times for it already.

Luckily FH hadn't left for work yet, so I was able to call him to confirm that it's sitting in the ring dish where I always leave it, or else I'd be freaking out that I accidentally dropped it, or that my dogs were going to eat it or something.

Has anyone else ever accidentally left their ring(s) at home or somewhere else? I hope it all turned out OK if you did. Do you have a certain place or places where you leave your ring(s) when you take it/them off?

Yeah, I forgot to put my ring on one morning (I don't sleep with it on). I had to drive back home to get it, I felt so uncomfortable. I was only 5 min away when I noticed, so it was not too much trouble to go get it.

I totally get what you mean. If I hadn't gone for it I would have had mini panics all day thinking I had lost it before remembering I left it at home.

I forget mine at least once a month, usually if I use the ring dish in the kitchen (when I'm washing dishes). Each time I realize when I get to work but I'm confident it's in that darn dish so I don't stress. Last month I "lost" my ring for an hour, while we were out of state, so that was really stressful. It turns out I drunkenly put it away in the jewelry box in my suitcase before bed, so score one for tipsy Sara Smiley xd

I have left mine at my sisters house and my house. At my sisters she had just had my nephew and I was washing my hands to hold him and left it on her counter. When I got home I realized it but she only lives 5 minutes from me so I went back and got it. At my house I always put it in the top draw in my bathroom before I get in the shower and have forgot to put it on after I put on lotion.

I have. I felt so sad looking down at my ringless finger. I once left my ring in a bar bathroom for like 5 seconds before drunk me remembered I left it on the sink. Luckily it was still there. I always leave my ring in a ring dish one of my MOHs got me on my sink when I shower/ clean. I also leave my silicone rings in it to easily grab if I wish to wear them instead.

I forgot mine one morning and remembered on the drive to work. FH and I carpool so he was there when I realized and joked about who am I seeing at work that day. It felt weird, but I was more concerned someone would notice and ask me what happened why I'm not wearing my ring. I don't sleep with it on so I was pretty confident it was at home on my dinosaur ring holder.

Ive done this from time to time and the first time i did it it upset me so much, FH actually got up out of bed, early, on his day off, to drive to my work and give it to me with a coffee and breakfast.

this is how i know im marrying the right man, lol!

but it feels so wrong not having it on Smiley sad im sad every time i take it off - i dont like even cleaning around the house or showering without it on but i dont want it dirty. lol

i have a trinket dish in the living room, where i put it when im cleaning. i keep the ring box under the sink in the bathroom to put it in when i shower so that my cat doesnt try to play with it, and if he does, its in the box.

Yeah, I forget my rings every once in a while, especially if I'm running out to the store, and I did it when I was engaged, too. DH forgets his in the morning sometimes. Yes, we have a ring dish in our bathroom and in our kitchen so they are always in either of those two spots.

I sleep with my ring on, but take it off to shower, clean and, in this case, feed the dogs/wash my hands.

@Chelsea I was close to home when I remembered, but there were a bunch of parents/kids standing at the school bus stop near my house, and didn't want to get caught up in all that. And, I was already running late. I was glad that I could call FH to confirm it was where it should be.

@Sara&L I "lost" my ring for about a half-hour one day too, only to find out that I had left it on the kitchen counter, and FH put it in a different room with his keys and wallet for safe keeping. I was nearly crying by the time I told him I couldn't find it, and he didn't even realize I was looking for it. Glad yours was where it should be.

@FutureMrs.V I'm terrified that I'm going to leave my ring in some random bathroom someday. The bar we go to a lot has no cover over the drain, so I'm always afraid to leave it on my hands when I wash them there. I put it in my pocket before I even get near the sink. I'm so glad yours was still there!

    How’s THIS for a story:
FH and I were driving to PA for the weekend to visit family. In the morning I had showered (so took my ring off) and put some special cream on my hands, so instead of putting my ring on, I put it in my ring box and put it in my purse, since I knew I’d go crazy if I went without it for the whole weekend.

We took a handful of stuff with us so my hands were full when we walked to the car (live in nyc, parked on the street).

anyway we got going, no traffic making good time. About halfway into the trip I went to grab something out of my purse. And realized ....I didn’t have it with me. My WHOLE purse. Not just that but with the ring in it. I PANICKED. I was like 85% sure I had just forgotten my purse at home bc I was carrying things, but I never leave home without my purse so it felt like a bizarre/unlikely forget so I was paranoid that I had just somehow dropped it when we were loading the car. It was too late to turn around so I just had to reassure myself that it was forgotten at home, but in my head all weekend I just pictured purse and ring sitting in the middle of a city street.

I was so beyond relieved to get home and find my purse safely tucked away inside the apartment

I leave them at home all the time. I don't like sleeping with rings on, and also take them off when I clean or cook. Whenever I do my husband gives me cr*p all day about either "not liking" them or that I have a hot date/am flying free and single for the day.

I usually don't freak out, since they're always either in a small dish in the kitchen (one of those herb stripper things...which I never use to strip herbs, but it's perfect as a ring dish) or on my dresser. I do need to get a new ring box for when I work out so they're not loose in my bag, since I stepped on and broke the old one

    @Emily that's so sweet

@Ash wow, I'd be so worried about it all weekend. Glad it turned out OK.

@Nats I've seen necklaces and bracelets that can hold your rings when you're working out. I work out in/around my house, so when I do I just keep my ring in the normal spot in the kitchen.

Thanks everyone for letting me know that I'm not the only one who does this, lol.

Yes! After wearing it for over a year now, it feels weird when I don’t have it on. I typically take it off when I work out or clean. I forget it once when I was running late to a work meeting after the gym and I hated it!

I've forgotten it a few times when I meant to wear it to work. There are lots of places I don't wear it in general though so it mostly lives in it's ring box in a drawer when I'm not wearing it. It makes me sad, but I don't panic because I know if I'm not wearing it, it's in the box.

When I'm doing dishes, eating messy foods etc., I'll just take off the ring and either put it in my pocket, or put it in my phone (has a small wallet attachment).

Look into Ring Bandits. I love mine and wear it every day. I also bought my sister one as an engagement gift.

I nearly always remember mine, but H routinely leaves his wedding ring around the house which really stresses me out. i don't want him to lose it, especially because we made each other's rings in a silversmithing workshop so i feel pretty attached to both of them! i don't mind if he doesn't wear it every day, because there are times i don't wear mine, i just wish he would choose one place to leave it.

I take my rings off every day when I get home, so yes, I have left the house occasionally and forgotten to put them back on. I also don't necessarily put them on every time I leave the house. If it's a weekend, and I'm just going from home to get a manicure or running to the store and back, I tend not to put them on.

I haven't gone a day without wearing my rings; I was once in my car driving to work when I noticed I didn't have my rings on. I was a block away, so I turned back and got my rings. I was around 10 minutes max late to work, but it was better than not having my ring and worrying if the handymen got it.
