Every wedding has a story...

MoweryMe, on April 20, 2017 at 6:57 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Your Parents, your Grandparents, Cousins, Aunt.....they all have that really funny story to tell about a super unfortunate (but funny, in the end) event that happened during wedding planning or wedding day!

Well here's mine!

Yesterday evening after church service (I will be getting married at my church), myself and family began to set up our simple decorations for the auditorium. Everything was going really well and we were almost done!

My Fiancé and I were going to begin wrapping Tulle around the back pillars in the auditorium. We needed a ladder so we went the utility room in search of one. The utility room is connected to the auditorium and that door was open, connecting the two.

Well anyways! We found the right ladder and FH started to lift it and carry it out the door when I hear sliding, bang, thud, a really obnoxious hissing, and then billows of white powder starts going EVERYWHERE.

Continued....

There was an old fire extinguisher that someone had placed beside the ladder on top a tipsy turvy box. The safety pin was completely gone so as FH moved the ladder, the box slipped, and the extinguisher fell on its head, it pushed the lever down and activated it.

Billows and billows in a matter of seconds.

At this point I can't see or hardly breathe, but i knew I had to get down to the floor and lift that darn level!

I finally managed to get it turned off, but not before the entire utility room was covered in powder.

And as I mentioned earlier the utility room door that lead to the auditorium was open....white powder covered the grand piano, carpet, pews....the whole place looks like a cloud.

My brother in law acted FAST and began closing the piano and covering it when he saw what was happening.

Thankfully this type of extinguishing powder is not corrosive.... BIG greatfulness right there!

So! This morning FH, myself, and some of my sisters will be busy busy busy BUSY cleaning the auditorium up.

I'm just so thankful this didn't happen Friday Night!

That's hilarious!, my funny story is from my parent's wedding: both of my maternal parents were extremely anxious (only daughter getting married and all), so my grandma wanted for my mom to "get dressed already!!" (The wedding was at 9 pm and this happened at 10 am!)... then when they finally got to the church (about 20 min from the house where they were getting ready), my grandpa (who was driving them) realized he was driving with the emergency brakes on the whole time!!. Then, at the reception, it started to rain heavily and since the dancing was taking place outside, their guests took of their shoes and started dancing in the rain shoeless, all good... until the next day the neighbors brought to my aunt's house (where the reception took place) one pair of women's shoes they found in their backyard!, it was one of my other aunt's... AND THAT'S WHEN SHE REALIZED SHE DIDN'T HAD THEM WITH HER ANYMORE!!

At my wedding, as I walked out of the bridal cabin to go the the chapel (~30sec golf cart ride), I see our daughter/MOH (12) running down the sidewalk towards me. I see that she's laughing and trying not to fall in her heels and I am very perplexed. I asked what was wrong and she says "I have to go to the bathroom REALLY bad". She goes and I'm laughing bc it was so random and I was a bundle of nerves up until that point. She rides back with me and enters the chapel through the back because at that point, the BP processional had completed and all were waiting for us, wondering what was going on.

    Ya'll's stories are great!!

Here's a picture of some of the powder under the piano. This has partially been cleaned (but it was before the powder that was in the air had settled.

    @Mowery that looks pretty!

My mom has a notoriously bad bladder. So right before she put her dress on, she made sure to use the bathroom. She was fine for the while ceremony, but on the way to the reception, realized she had to pee like NOW. So my dad pulls into a gas station bathroom! She said it was dirty and disgusting, and she made my dad hold her dress up. It was the first time he'd seen her pee! They had a good laugh at least!

I don't know if this is funny, but an elderly lady died at my aunt's wedding. It was just before the ceremony, and allegedly the last thing she said was "what a beautiful church" and then she stiffened up and slipped under the pew. My aunt was crying down the aisle, and Mom thought it was because she was so happy. It turns out it was because my aunt had to pass this dead lady on her way to the alter while the paramedics were performing CPR.

I remember a wedding when I was a teenager that had a guest with an unruly child. It was quite annoying, but finally her mom got ahold of her and she screamed loudly, "You're choking me!" It was awkward until the bride started laughing. At that same wedding, one of the bridesmaids abruptly walked off the altar and out a side door. Then we heard a loud thud. She had gotten sick at her stomach and on her way to the bathroom, she fainted. Of course, the guests didn't know it until the reception.

We were at a wedding for one of FH's fraternity brothers (the groom). The groom had always been into the classic 90's/2000's boy bands, so during the reception the bride asked the dj to play some of his favorite jams. Well, groom got so into the music (and was also so incredibly drunk) he ended up flailing too hard and punched his bride in the face.

He continued to dance as everyone in the bridal party ran up to the (now bleeding) bride. She got escorted to the bathroom to get checked out (no major damage, just a small cut on the cheek from his diamond-encrusted wedding band) and he got escorted outside to sober up.

Needless to say, we decided to head out early (after checking on the bride myself, who was in surprisingly high spirits for having just gotten punched in the face in a room full of her family and friends). It was crazy, and something we still talk about!!
