On my FB page I posted the following story and picture...the response I got from a guy was this: "There is no excuse for obesity" It really angered me! On my FB page I posted the following story and picture...the response I got from a guy was this: "There is no excuse for obesity" It really angered me! There are so many women out there who struggle with how they look and fit in with society...and it's people like this guy who make the struggle more difficult! Needless to say, he was removed as a 'friend' on my FB.

Here's the story:

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.

They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.

Saw this on my facebook a few days ago. I loved it.

I don't think it means anything related to obese, it just means to love your curves!!!!!!!!!!!

Some girls are just not twigs, it's just metabolim or other various things.

everyone is kind of overanlyzing this a bit.

Actually as the majority of people start accepting that the "norm" is larger bodies and heavier weights it becomes everyone's problem. Obesity is linked with an endless stream of health related issues (heart disease, diabetes, joint replacements) and everyone is affected when insurance costs rise. If I am overweight it increases the odds that my child wil be overweight because I will have potentially passed on poor eating and exercise habits. Has anyone noticed how much heavier children are these days? I hope I'm not alone in saying I don't want my 6 year old to be obese.

Yes women definetly struggle with weight issues but so much of it is because of our lifestyle. Everyone is car dependent, we (as a society) eat pesticide ridden, processed food because its labeled 100 calorie packs even though fruit has fiber and nutrients and is often times less than 100 calories. I'm not able to agree we should be more "accepting" of the trend toward obesity being the "norm".

Honestly all I've seen come from the FB postings is curvier women bashing skinny women for being skinny. Saying that its better to be overweight than to be skinny with an eating disorder. Well yes it is, certainly, but its frustrating that those appear to be the only two options available.

    Alyssa-U a badaaassss!!

I struggled with my weight FOREVER! My ex-husband actually introduced me to people as his "fat wife"..that one still hurts. I lost 55 pounds on Weight Watchers and of course his responses were .."how long is it going to take you to gain it back" and, "now you have such a sweet little ass and you won't let me touch it".."Oh, now you're skinny, so you're gonna leave me, aren't you?" BARF!!!

    Well, I left him

But it was two years AFTER I lost and kept off the weight. To some men, size doesn't matter. They want to make you feel bad no matter WHAT your size is.

Five years and counting after my first WW meeting, only 4 pounds over my WW goal. Mainly because I don't live with a person who tries to make himself feel better by making me feel awful about myself. Never underestimate the power others can have over you. Once you don't let it happen anymore, you can finally learn to love and take care of yourself.

Thanks Sami--He is quite a piece of work...lucky for me, FH is NOTHING like my practice husband. He is the funniest, sweetest most darling man. He tells me I am beautiful and loved every single day in some way, shape or form. And if he says nothing, I can see it in his eyes. When I feel skinny..he says I'm "svelte". When I feel fat, he says I'm "voluptuous". I got myself a real keeper.

I know people are upset when they talk about "fat/big people" but its just as hard being skinny...All the time I get people commenting because I am skinny making rude remarks such as "you must be anorexic, oh go eat a hamburger..etc"...when all I do is eat and eat and try to gain weight but I simply cant. I get so upset that people assume that only "big" people get harrassed and never do skinny women get harrassed.. I say no matter what, you should never ever judge a woman of her size..because poking fun of a skinny person or a fat person both hurts the same in my book....and I think that everyone is beautiful in there own way. (sorry for being blunt..)

I like this.. and i personally think the model is GORGEOUS! i am on WW and ppl diet for all kinds of reasons. I hate that i gained so much my with my kids and its yo-yo'ed for years. I of course want to be THIN and healthier, but my focus is on healthier and still being able to enjoy that ice cream with the kids, or their bday cake. Its all about balance, and i can have some cookies i made my boys, we can have 2... they also see me exercise and play outside. SOME ppl do have it harder and some PPL DID put themselves in disasterous situations... but I personally carried three children in my body (2 at ONE time) and my BODY will never be perfect... im proud of my stretch marks too, lol... 3 healthy beautiful babies.. there is more to life. Be healthy... do it for YOU.

Yeah, I always hated the "real women have curves" thing. Some do, some don't. Real women are 5'2, size 8 or 6'0, size 2 or 5'6, size 12 or 5'10, size 20 or whatever. I've never been on a diet and I've only had curves while pregnant, but still I am not skinny or chubby. Can't find jeans that fit, always have a little stuff on my belly, but not any fat on my legs because of running and water aerobics...

    Real women are.

I love love love this. Heres my take on the whole weight thing.....Its your life, please live it to the fullest. I am going to be 41 this month and only have just started to accept my body. I think as women no matter what size we are society tells us it is wrong and we need to look a certain way. How sad is that. How can we possibly teach our children to accept themselves if everything else they see tells them they are never good enough.

I have always been a bigger girl, and yes it is hard. I don't think its right for any woman to be made fun of small or big. I liked this post, but not all of the negative feedback I have seen from it.

The model is absolutely gorgeous. And before any of the haters start blaming "fat people" for their insurance premiums, let me tell you a little story:

A close friend of mine gave birth about a year ago. She put on a good 75lbs AT LEAST and she started looking for ways to lose the weight.

She wanted to see a nutritionist and had called her insurance company to see if they would be willing to cover this for her, at least partially......NOPE! They would cover NOTHINGGGGGGG. BUT, they did tell her they would cover a $20,000 Gastric Bypass surgery for her! How f***ed up is that?

WOW that is something else Jamie, I can't (wait yes I can) believe that they would cover a gp surgery but not a nutrionist! cRazy cRazy!
