On my FB page I posted the following story and picture...the response I got from a guy was this: "There is no excuse for obesity" It really angered me! On my FB page I posted the following story and picture...the response I got from a guy was this: "There is no excuse for obesity" It really angered me! There are so many women out there who struggle with how they look and fit in with society...and it's people like this guy who make the struggle more difficult! Needless to say, he was removed as a 'friend' on my FB.

Here's the story:

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.

They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.

I totally agree with ya April.. I dont accept myself now not sure if I ever will. I try my best to not let my kids know that I dont cause I dont want my boys to think like most people in society now. I think like a lot of them towards myself.. Honestly Im not a whole lot different I judge my self when I look in the mirror Honestly I cant see myself for who I am because of what I see.. I should not be like that but I grew up bigger my whole life. Society pumping my head full of the images Im supposed to be like so I started to think it. I cant be beautiful unless Im thin I know its not true but its society. I also the real skinny chics get it pretty bad too I even sometimes make comments cause some just look disgusting with their ribs showing I know not all can help that but some really just dont eat and have disorders as well. This post is to just learn to except woman as they are. That no matter what size we are we are all women and a thinner one is not better than a bigger one..

Yea, UNREAAAL! Instead of giving in to her insurance company and taking the easy way out, she attended OA and has made some MAJOR improvements :-D

This story isn't about promoting obesity...it's about promoting self confidence, acceptance and a reminder that a continuous effort to be healthy is important but a continuous effort to be skinny is unnecessary.

It's not a story about health care or lifestyle. It's a story that depicts women as they truly are and to love what God gave you. Embrace.

Today's society has a skewed vision on what women are supposed to look like. You have young girls who are trying to compare themselves to something that is completely unrealistic due to genetics or better yet, models being Photoshopped.

Everybody has a right to constructive comments but there is no need to put down a population of people whom we don't know. Don't judge.

Most importantly love who you are, embrace all of what you've become, and never change for anyone but yourself.

On a side note...Western diets are completely different than they were 50 years ago. We rely on preservatives and quick meals to keep up with the ever changing ways of life. Because we're always looking for something at less of a cost, things like corn make everything cheaper. So it's not necessarily a person's fault for being over weight, if they can't afford healthy options. Educate yourself before you start criticizing others and the way they look.

Sami said it perfectly, sorry I was out celebrating my mom's birthday not dodging this thread.

Sorry, but I was 5'11" and 198 lbs when my ex wife told me I was "too fat to have sex with". Trust me men have the issues women have.

And this article was 10000% about promoting obesity and it's pathetic.

Also, don't tell me obese people don't increase insurance premiums because they most definitely do.

Jamie: I don't see why you get so defensive over this, you are not the only person in the world that struggles with their weight, it's a day to day struggle for me, I have hypothyroidism, which causes me to not metabolize food properly, I've been told I need to lose 60lbs to be in the green light and to help fight of diabetes.

I agree that SOME obese people can't help the way they are, but others are just lazy and honestly don't care about themselves, if you don't believe me look up something call "600 lbs mom" she literally called the cops on her own children for following the doctors orders on what to feed her and she didn't like it.

telling someone to be comfortable in their own body, and promoting obesity are two different things, with that said, I do not see how this is promoting obesity if someone is saying they'd rather be "a whale" it all depends on what THAT person considers a whale...

    I'm defensive because it's NOBODY'S business. That's all I said!

Jamie, honestly it is our business because believe it or not, a lot of the people who could do something about their weight, and are pretty much just too lazy to do it live off welfare or anything else like that, and just because I don't have a job at this time doesn't mean I don't worry about taxes, which are still taken out of my school funding believe it or not.

On another not jamie there is no reason to be hostile about this, Glenn was stating his opinion, just like I did, if you don't like it don't post on it...I believe I've seen the mods say that a few times on here.

And do you think it's possible that a high percentage of that cost COULD possibly be insurance companies GIVING away Weight Loss surgeries??

 I've been called worse. Seriously, if you think that this doesn't promote obesity then you are seeing what you want to see. When you say you would rather be a "whale" (meaning obese) vs a "mermaid" (skinny) then you are promoting getting fat, congratulations.

They "give away" the weight loss surgery because they take a look at how much it is going to cost them to NOT "give it away" and they know for a FACT that it's going to cost them less in the long run (companies like to think long term, I know that's hard for a lot of people) so they make that decision.

She's not bad, but she is far from gorgeous, if you are ok with being fat or ok with eventually becoming fat, more power to you. Me, I will never let myself go like that, I've worked too hard to lose all of the weight I've lost to allow myself to get back there. Of course I believe in hard work and not being lazy.

@Tina, I believe they contribute quite a bit too. I used to be a smoker myself as well, almost 2 years clean, whoop whoop! Seriously, let the drug addicts weed themselves out....

You probably make fun of pregnant women too, huh? Pfft
