On my FB page I posted the following story and picture...the response I got from a guy was this: "There is no excuse for obesity" It really angered me! On my FB page I posted the following story and picture...the response I got from a guy was this: "There is no excuse for obesity" It really angered me! There are so many women out there who struggle with how they look and fit in with society...and it's people like this guy who make the struggle more difficult! Needless to say, he was removed as a 'friend' on my FB.

Here's the story:

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.

They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.

Sigh, Future Mrs. Miz just doesn't get it. If I am uncomfortable for several hours it IS my business, whether that person is overweight (and it's usually dudes not girls FWIW that I end up stuck next to in these situations), that person has BO or that person feels the need to make conversation the entire flight/sporting event. Either way I'm miserable and it's my business. I also find it funny that nowhere in here has anyone asked me what my ideal woman was they just assumed that I want a stick figure woman, which isn't further from the truth. Frankly, the biggest problem I have with this model is that her face is ugly, forget the extra rolls (she seems to have a few too many for a size 12) she's just flat out ugly in my mind.

One day those of you who are overweight or obese (news flash, according to BMI i am still overweight) will either die from a disease related to your weight or you will realize its never too late and try to fix your health, hopefully the former

I really everyone is getting overly sensitive for nothing. Glenn is NOT saying you shouldn't love yourself. He is basically saying that you should love yourself, but also maintain a healthy lifestyle. Being overweight can cause problems. I am overweight myself, but the changes like eating habits, exercise, portion control can make a world of difference in me. If you truly believe you are healthy, then see a doctor to find out. There are instances where someone is overweight and healthy and other instances where it's not healthy at all. For a fact my grandmother is obese (size 16) but her doctors consider her healthy because of what she does. My mother however, just as obese and has WAY more health problems. It differs from person to person. You want to be fat? Fine that is cool, but please people, don't kill yourself in the process.

I think some people see Glenn's posts, and without reading the post they just bash the hell out of him. It's actually way more rude than anything he's ever said to anyone on here.

And, Rae, "If you have a big nose or your eyes were too close together or you had webbed feet, I'm sure the Glenn's of the world would find a reason to talk sh*t" is pure conjecture and an apples-to-oranges comparison. Webbed feet or close-together eyes don't affect anyone else. Now, if someone is spilling into my airplane seat and mashing me against the window, it makes it uncomfortable and difficult for me to breathe. It's VERY different.

I'm not sure why you don't understand such a simple fact.

And some people are strong enough to, instead of whining about whales, actually do something about their weight. The director Kevin Smith was booted off a Southwest flight a few years back due to their "person of size" policy. Which is basically, due to safety considerations, people over a certain size have to buy two seats or they'll be bumped from the flight.

Instead of blubbering about how he's a special snowflake whale, he got on that treadmill, improved his health and lost the weight.

Oh Shannon, you know they all treat you the say way as me, they see what you wrote and now will automatically assume it's something negative and that you are being mean.

Glenn, it's hilarious considering people who actually know me/actually read what I say know I'm a fluffy bunny.

Glenn I think that your previous history proceeds you and therefore people lash out at you. Deserved? Earned? Meh... Who's to say? But I know it doesn't matter or bother you so no need to defend yourself.

Look at Drew Carey, he realized that his weight was causing all kinds of health issues so he did something about it.

From a medical standpoint, it's not good to be obese because of the many health risks, both short term and long term. That being said..we as women tend to put ourselves last, and as a consequence, we gain weight. (either mental weight as stress, physical weight as fat, or both). Sadly the American society still values stick thin/lower than healthy weight women as the "normal" when this is simply not attainable by the majority of women, nor is it healthy for most women. Our society has also set up women to self-bash themselves. We look in the mirror and immediately look at all our "flaws" and never identify our positives. We judge other women and tear them down (consciously and unconsciously) out of jealousy or to make ourselves feel better at some level. Yes, we as women should not be 300, 400 etc plus pounds because it is not medically healthy...but having pudge on our abdomens, thighs, backfat, bra spillage etc does NOT mean we aren't strong, intelligent, loving caring people. :-)

I think Mrs Covington is saying it's cool to have preconceived notions about people, and then bash those people relentlessly instead of seeing if they surprise you.

In related news, all Australians are criminals. Right?

I typically don't join in on post that have stirred drama but after reading 8 pages of post I figured I'd give my 2 cents. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. That's one of the great things about living in America. However, what seems to offend people is not always the message but how the message is delivered. I love what Cydney has posted. I don't think the term whale was the best word to use but I understand what they are trying to convey. Society has deemed that a size 0/2 is what makes a women beautiful and successful and if you don't agree just grab the latest edition of People or US Weekly. Those celebs are what our young girls have to look up to. If they gain 10 lbs it's all over the news. What I got out of this article is you should love yourself for who you are. If that means being a size 14 then so be it. What's important is that you are living a healthy life style and you are happy with who you are.

Nicole, I agree that women are their own worst enemies. Which is why these sorts of "real women have curves" memes are ultimately destructive. It pits thinner women against heavier women, and nobody wins.

And I know I look best with a bit of squish to me, but still strive to be active and strong. I don't just throw my hands in the air and subscribe to delusional nonsense about how I'm "not fat, I'm cultivated."
