Congratulations on your engagement!! I like the colors you picked. Wedding planning can certainly be overwhelming at times, but also very fun. Start with talking to your future spouse to figure out budget, estimated guest count, and overall vision for the wedding. Once you have those determined, start looking at venues within your budget that can hold at least the number of guests that you plan to invite, and schedule some venue tours.

Once you lock in your date at a venue, then search for any vendors that you may want (photographer, florist, DJ, etc), and schedule meetings with your top choices for each. You can also search for venues and vendors in your area using WeddingWire, though be sure to also search for those same vendors on social media and Google to look at reviews.

Once your vendors are booked, look into attire. Wedding dresses should ideally be purchased around 10-12 months before the wedding to allow time for them to arrive (many take 4-6 months to ship). Plan to start dress alterations around 2-4 months before the wedding. For bridesmaids dresses and tuxes/suits, those can be selected somewhere around 4-6 months before the wedding.

WeddingWire and The Knot both have online checklists that you can use to help keep your planning on track, as well as budget tools to help keep you organized. These forums are also a great resource for asking questions and/or sharing your planning progress. Happy wedding planning!!

Definitely start with budget, because all the rest of your decisions will stem from there. Congrats and have fun planning!

Agreed. As you make your budget, consider what is most important to you and not too important. That way you have a better idea of what items should take precedence if you have to make decisions about what you can afford.

Start with making a budget so that you can decide what you want for your wedding. Determine what is important as you plan your wedding so that you can try to stay within your budget
