Excellence Playa Mujeres VS Paradisus Playa Del Carmen La Perla

We are looking at these resorts too, so I'm just here to follow

I met with a travel agent today and it seems Paradisus may be cheaper but I love both of them from what I'm reading.

I don't have a personal experience, but we are going to EPM in September of next year. I have done a ton of research, reading reviews, forums, etc. It seems like it can't be beat.

We are looking at 5 nights in October. I do agree that EPM sounds fabulous.

I went to EPM, but never heard of the other resort so I can't really compare. I really can't find a bad thing to say about EMP but I also don't travel a ton. The drinks, food and service were fabulous.

I'm linking my BAH post in case it's any help and I can try answer specific questions but the trip advisor forums were really helpful for me.

I don't know anything about those specific resorts. But we honeymooned in Playa Del Carmen and it was perfect. Your far enough south to get away from the craziness of Cancun. Your also more central. Where you could do an excursion to Cancun or go farther south. We did an excursion to Tulum. Also not far from Playa Del Carmen is Xcaret, Xplor, and several other parks that are awesome for adventures!!

I know they have a calendar-like board with all the activities and classes. There is also a newsletter that they leave at turn down with the next days events. There's water sports right at the resort and you can sign up at the hotel for excursions too. We went to Chichen Itza and Isla Mujeres but most days just hung out by the pool because we met a really great group of people we meshed well with.

What kind of activities are you looking for? Excursions? If you're wanting to leave the resort a lot of shopping, excursions, then EPM might be a little too far away for you. It's rather secluded.

Snorkeling, night entertainment, boat tours and whatever else the resort has to off I guess. I see now that they have most of that stuff so I'm not worried anymore.

I would also like to swim with dolphins if anybody can point me in that direction!

They have shows and a lot of live singing at night. We really enjoyed that, if that's what you mean by night entertainment. We weren't really interested in going to clubs. Someone told me that the Riveria Maya Excellence is better if you want to experience night life outside of the resort but the overall stay is better at EPM. Even at EPM though, you are only like a 15-20 min cab ride from downtown Cancun.

I've heard great things about the Excellence Resorts in general from several people who've been.

I've been to Excellence Punta Cana and it was wonderful; I'd imagine Playa Mujeres would be just as lovely. Do the Excellence Club upgrade, for sure. So worth it.

Just wondering, as far as safety, did you ever feel unsafe while in Mexico? I have not been out of the country so I am a little nervous. @Elyse

I just read this about EPM and it scares me.

I've been to Mexico. Just myself and my mom and it was fine. They just tell you not to go off the resort alone or in small groups by they told us the same in the Bahamas and the Dominican. Natives prey on and take advantage of tourist in many countries.

With that being said we booked

EPM for our honeymoon. We are staying in a 2 story suite with a private roof top pool and I'm super excited about that.

We booked Excellence Playa Mujeres (recommended by two of our very close friends). We will be going on our honeymoon at the end of March through beginning of April next year!
