Exercise for Exercise Haters?

I feel like most people enjoy some kind of exercise; the human body is made to move... but I actually HATE it. I stopped exercising regularly about a year ago and it really shows. I don't necessarily want to lose weight, but I want to get in shape and feel good about my body before my wedding in May.

I tried the "buy a gym membership so you're motivated to get your money's worth" method and it was just a waste of money. Does anyone have exercise suggestions for a bride who hates exercise?! And suggestions to make a routine stick?

I love Zumba, but there are no classes where I live that are available when I'm not working.

I got the studio Tone it up app, totally works for me, I don't have to choose a work out, I let the app tell me what to do! I cast from my phone to my tv via Chromecast. I have a water rower for extra cardio.

I feel you. FH and I go for a nightly walk almost every night so we can play pokemon haha but assuming you aren't a poke-player, if you have any friends near by or neighbors, maybe ask them to go on walks with you or to the gym. Maybe having some girl/gossip time will make it less dreadful.

Another idea, do you have a pool or does a friend/family member live in an apartment complex with a pool? Swim some laps and get a tan in the process!

Yes! Just walk as much as you can. I take a lot of walking breaks at work and when I go to the bathroom, do a set of 10 body squats or lunges. That way it spreads it out through the day but I'm still burning calories.

Dance up a sweat! Work up to doing it in heels. I hate working out so dancing is a fun way to keep in shape. I also love to ride my bike and swim.

I don't mind the gym but prefer group fitness classes to just lifting weights. You can try martial arts, mama, kickboxig, jiujitsu if you want to beat up people for fun and get in shape at the same time. Cross fit too!

I have to suggest Indoor Rock Climbing - my brother got me into this and it's addicting! It's an incredible good and sustainable workout, it works your whole body and helps increase your flexibility and strength.

The thing about Rock Climbing is that it works your body but also your brain, so it does not get monotonous or boring. Each course is a puzzle and rock gyms will have all levels of difficulty so as you get better you'll still have new challenges.

Most rock gyms offer belay classes and have auto belay systems if you don't have a partner, and discounted memberships for those who want to give it a try.

I'll also suggest cycling - it's a bit of an investment to start but once you get your bike and gear you don't have to pay for much after that, and I also find cycling super addicting. I started last summer and put 2,000 miles on my bike in 4 months!

I think the summary of what everyone else has said: finding a buddy to do it with helps, and find something you enjoy. I can't stand gyms and they're a waste of money for me too!

My FH and I walk together every morning. Some days I even say "I'm not walking today" but by the time he's dressed I'm also putting my shoes on and I never regret it once I'm out there. ☺
