Expensive Photography but Quality Looks Terrible on Website?

Macy, on May 11, 2019 at 6:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I've been looking high and low for a great photographer, I'm willing to spend $3-5k on a good photographer because I am huge on perfect and clear photos. I'm looking for a photographer who can take lots of photos and is professional. I don't want any of those filtered looking photos, only classic, bright, natural, and realistic looking photos.

I've come across a lot of photos though a Photographer's portfolio and blog ranging on the high end, around $4-5k and the photo quality looks terrible and blurry! Is this a norm? It's not just one photographer I've seen, it's many. Their work is great and their website is awesome, but the photos don't look very clear to me?

I would think photographers would want to showcase their photography clearly and truly, but I'm thinking maybe they are awesome photos, but their website is makes the photos look blurry? Is it just me?

Please help if you can!! Also, if you can advise any photographers that would be great too!

It could be the device you are using if it’s more than one photographer.
Pictures on my iPad tend to look blurry but in my computer they’re fine.
Also, when you set up your initial meeting theyll
be able to show you their products (pictures in an album).

I use my iPhone 7, my macbook air, and my dell computer (HD wide screen). No luck Smiley sad

So while looking at photography, maybe I should look at their photos and if I like their photos (even if they are blurry), ask them for some high res samples? For me it's just so hard to see if I really like a photo since it's not as clear as I'd like it to be. :/

Take a look at two photos below, does one look better quality to you? I listed the one that looks better to me than the other? The one that has better quality is actually not as expensive as the other one I'm comparing it to.

    Photographer here!
It really has nothing to do with "quality" per se. Social media (especially FB) has a terrible tendency of compressing images to the point that they get a bit blurred. Compressed images also can be a side effect of someone using smaller files due to the load up time for their websites. Honestly, the composition, color tones, and whether or not you feel they capture emotions the way you prefer should be more important. When your files are delivered (if you opt for digital files) they will very well be high res and not have any of those issues.
If you're needing help finding a photographer, I can definitely help you out with that. Just let me know your location, date, and budget! I can gather some togs info and pass it on to you.

Thanks Allison! I'm going to re-run through the photographers I've looked at already and try focusing more on the style and types of photos they take, more than the quality. If the quality bugs me a lot I'll most likely ask to see if they have any clear photos they can send to me or other samples. Thanks so much for your advice!!

I'm looking for a photographer around CT or MA (New England area) that focuses more on realistic colors and photos (not filtered). I like traditional/posed and candid photos. I want tons of portrait/landscape photos to choose from to put on our wall! We're looking for a photographer for 06/13/2020 or 06/27/2020. The max I would spend is $4k, but if they're good I'm OK with spending more. Thank you so much Smiley smile

    ANSWER TO MY PROBLEM!!

For anyone who has this issue or is also wondering why this might be a problem - I believe I have the answer to my own problem!

I believe there are two types of cameras that photographers use, Digital vs. Film Cameras. The professional digital style cameras do a great job at getting really detailed photos that look almost HD and realistic. It has more of that 3D effect and it captures images in so much detail. Film style cameras are a bit more grainy. As much as they can also create clear and beautiful photos and capture colors really well, I feel like the graininess of these photos does not compare to a digital style camera. Hope this helps everyone!!
