Experience with skipping period on birth control?

MrsBeaudrytoBe, on December 12, 2016 at 2:31 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 12

My wedding is in 3 months and I have counted up the days for when I should expect my period...of course it's going to happen at the most inconvenient time! I am currently on OrthoCyclen (the monophasic version) and was wondering if anyone has had a hard time or unexpected bleeding while taking the pill continuously. I'm not sure if it would be better to start now or wait until the month before the wedding. Any advice is appreciated.

Start now if it's going to change your cycle. I never had any problems when I was on it.

I'm not a doctor, but I would say start the month before the wedding. Being on the pill straight through with no breaks for a long time is what causes spotting and breakthrough bleeding.

What Rebecca said. I have no issue skipping a few periods but if I try to go for 4 I bleed even on the pill.

If you want to change when your period comes, skip it now & that will put it the week before. If you just want to skip it completely the week of your wedding then wait until then & just start a new pack when you are supposed to take sugar pills. If you skip for the next 3 months in a row, there is a chance you will end up spotting the week of but it isn't near as likely to happen if you only skip once. I used to skip my periods every month because of migraines (per doctors recommendation) and about every third month I would spot.

I skipped my sugar pills for about a year straight (doctor approved) and never had any spotting. BUT, everyone is different, so I agree with everyone else. I would just do it for that particular cycle.

I talked with my gynecologist a few months before our wedding for the same reason. She actually had an additional prescription filled for me, and instead of taking 3 weeks of hormone pills and 1 week of sugar pills, I took 4 weeks of hormone pills and 1 week of sugar pills. I didn't have any issues, but I have really heavy periods in general so she thought this was a better option than skipping the sugar pills altogether.

Whenever I've tried this I've always had a little spotting, I'd probably want a panty liner or diva cup in place just in case on the big day if it were me, but sounds like most people have no problem

I usually have no problems if I want to skip a month, only experience bleeding if I'm bad about taking it the same time every day.

All I do is skip the white pills, move on to the new pack, and then after that first week, take the white pills. So it gives you an extra week!

I would take the sugar pills a week early to adjust the timing now. I tried to go straight through once and I spotted for the next month straight through Smiley sad

Everyone reacts differently, so make the adjustment now to be on the safe side. ideally, call and speak to the doctor about the best way to go about it.

You should ask your doctor, not a bunch of random people on the internet. Seriously someone asks this question every single day. All bodies are different. What works for another may not work for you.

I'm on the same ones and I skip placebo pills and only get a period every 3 months due to PCOS and severe pain. I've been doing it for years prescribed by my doctor and no problem yet. I would start a month early though. If you go longer than 3 months it won't work.
