Extensions for thin hair?

K, on June 9, 2021 at 9:20 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 2 12
Hello,

I have Very fine and thin hair. I’ve attached a pic showing my ponytail thickness (there is a little bit of hair that didn’t make it into the ponytail because it’s too short but it’s not much)
I’ve been toying with different ideas: hair padding, victory rolls, etc to try and get some volume. I’m thinking about extensions, but everything I’ve read say they’re a NO for gals like me.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I’m leaning more toward an updo like a bun or a braid so I was looking at ponytail extensions specifically, but I’m also kind of interested in hearing about regular clip ons.
My wedding is in September in another state. I’m just going to take a leap of faith and go with the salon that’s the “recommended vendor” for my venue. We have one trial in July but I feel like I should order the extensions now if I’m getting them so we can use them at the hair triAl.
Thanks!

This is a lot like my hair. I'm doing a hair & make-up trial next week and taking some clip in hair. I'm unsure if it will be needed or not but I've watched youtube videos and mostly it helps with the volume and filler. All of the hair on the "outside" is your hair. Maybe that will help with your hair as well.

Reach out the stylist and ask for a recommendation on the clip ins to buy!

What did the salon recommend at the trial? I would do whatever they suggested.

Personally, I would get an updo and get them to back-comb and add padding rather than extensions!

Call your stylist ahead of time and talk to them Smiley smile they know what’s up!
I have medium thickness hair, a bit on the short side. I ended up tucking it all in pretty tightly and adding a larger hair decoration.
I went with the three flower but the full crown almost won me over lolThe hairstyle itself is called a factory bun: low ponytail that you separate a bit and roll up into, tucking it in without pulling through. Extensions for thin hair? 2

I have very fine, thin hair and I wore extensions for my wedding. My ponytail is actually thinner than yours and I had no problem wearing extensions. I used clip in extensions, that I purchased at Sally's Beauty Supply. I took them to the girl that did my hair and makeup for my wedding about 3 weeks before so she could prep them. She put them in and I did an updo for my wedding. It was gorgeous!

Awesome! That’s great to hear, thank you!

I did email my stylist as others have suggested, but she’s never felt my hair or anything so I figure her guess would be as good as anyone else’s.

My sister has very fine hair with zero volume or curl and she uses tape in extensions, these extensions blend well for thin hair and don't damage the hair as much as sewn/beaded extensions and are easy to conceal unlike clip-in that can show through on thin hair. Your stylist will be able to volumize and back comb your hair to help conceal the extensions.

My ponytail is much smaller than yours and I used clip in extensions that the stylist ordered for me. I wore a loose bun / updo at a windy outdoor reception. You can 100% use clip-in extensions if your stylist knows how to work with them. The extensions have to be real hair (not synthetic) otherwise they won't take heat - curling iron etc.

As many others said, you should be okay with some clip-ins! I have thinnish hair, I guess it's medium level thickness but I want really long thick hair for my wedding day, so I'm meeting with a girl who does all kinds of extensions before and she will tell me if sew-ins are a possibility for me or if I should stick with something else. So I would discuss with the hair stylist on what they recommend.

Following up on this— I got the extensions today! Got the off-black Bellami 16” silk seam (140 g) set. They’re really lovely and match my hair perfectly. However, I can see the tracks when I put them in and try to do anything with my hair. My hair is just so thin. I’ve watched several YouTube videos on how to do this so I have at least a vague idea of how to do it right.

My question is, can someone reassure me that a good hairstylist will know how to style and fluff up my real hair so they don’t show all night? The wefts are held together by silicone bands and they, unfortunately, are kind of shiny.
    Thanks!

I cannot comment on extensions but also have pretty fine hair and not a ton of hair volume. Volumizing shampoo and conditioner (I used NatureLab Tokyo products) and a volumizing hairspray, mousse, or dry shampoo will help a lot. If you have long enough hair and are considering an updo, consider a bun form to add volume.
