Extra money for wedding...what are you doing?

Amanda, on January 2, 2019 at 6:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Hello!

I have been worried lately about feeling stressed putting deposits down and gearing up for the costs. What are some things that you are doing to have some extra money for things? It can be hard to find something flexible!

I've been selling clothes I don't wear anymore on Poshmark. It's helping me purge and helping me still have a little extra spending money in the budget. It does require effort, but it can all done from your phone in the app.

Not really advice on how to make extra money but my fiance and I have been saving every $5 bill we come across and put it towards our wedding account. You’d be surprised how much difference 5 bucks makes.

We get money taken out of our account every single Friday to our savings. Makes us feel like we don’t have that money to begin with.
I also started buying something every month out of our daily money instead from our wedding savings. It has work a lot for us because we were able to get many things in sale and we didn’t have to touch our budget for it.

Another thing we have done is change! We have a ton of coins always lying around and we have save it all. First round to cash it was close to $300 and now is full again. My parents have some save for us as well that we plan on cashing soon.

HI, I totally understand where you are coming from. I fell in love with a venue that wanted 30% to book a date. I spoke with the manger and said I love this place but since its the holidays can we split up this deposit? They allowed me to put $500 down and then we factor the rest into the grand total. I also came up with a budget, so each paycheck I send them some money. I find this easy and less stressful.

FH and I save our coins and at the end of each month we deposit them into our wedding account. It’s not much but coupled with the amounts that are taken from our checks it helps a lot! Plus it’s fun to see who saves the most each month.

We are limiting eating out and buying extras. Anytime one of us talks about getting something "extra" the other one says "or we can go out to a fancy dinner on our honeymoon" or something along those lines. It really helps with the mindset and it doesn't feel like we are cutting back.

We are eating more at home and meal prepping work lunches (also helps us eat healthy to lose weight). Not going out as much, not taking trips, and we save every penny. We will be putting aside both our tax refunds and end of year work bonuses. We both already have a good amount of savings so we have been able to put deposits down when we need to just fine.

I like the idea of having money automatically taken out of your paycheck like you’ve never even had it and put into a savings account. We will probably start doing that once we have a joint bank account.

I drive for Lyft! It’s not bad at all! Keep an eye out for bonuses and you can make a lot pretty quickly.

Selling clothes is a great option! And staying home. Lol eating out is too much, movies, trying not to go to any concerts this year. Winter time helps with not going out. I think about how I used to go out to eat a lot with one of my best friends before I got engaged but I just can't do that anymore! Agree with previous poster on the tax refund! Keep it saved! I have more money saved up since I was 16 but I told FH straight up that I refuse to blow all that savings and he understands. He makes far more than me. One of his coworker's wife just had a baby, so while he's out, FH is picking up a lot of his shifts. I had to put off buying a new vehicle obvi, and probably won't even fix the one I have (FH and I share a car). I am also planning on trying to find a new job with a higher salary. While it gives me less time off I think at the end of the day it's the better option because finishing up my masters I could be making double what I make now I just have to apply and put myself out there! Smiley surprise

Well, I make cakes. I had already made plans to start my own business, but for now, I just sell my cakes locally to friends and family.

    I work OT wherever possible.
I took my entire holiday bonus towards my photographer.
I installed the honey extension on google chrome to save money wherever possible.
We also take a chunk out of every check to put into our extra cash stash for anything that may pop up.
