eye liner under eye?

HRH Mags, on June 22, 2012 at 9:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Say that 5 times fast Smiley smile jp

Ok so...whenever I wear eye liner under my eye I think it looks weird. Because it is either right on the ridge of my eyelid (if that makes sense) or it looks like im a raccoon. When I was little I used it all the time for competitions and dont remember there being a problem. But now I am older it looks so weird on me so usually I just put it on the upper eyelid.

Is this just all in my head and it probably looks fine to everyone else or are there some people who just shouldnt wear liner under their eye?

    Pics?

I really like my eyes to stand out without look like a street walker, but I wear eyeliner on my top lids and on the ridge of my eyelid. It just depends on your face and how comfortable you are. Just do what feels natural.

Eye liner can be a touchy thing on your big day. The first question you need to ask yourself is, are you going to cry???? If you are a crier then you don't want eye liner running down your face. I have known a few brides that did this mistake.

If you have a good MUA none of this will be an issue.

Good things to consider. I was also wondering for uses for other occasions.

Kelly I am SURE I will be crying on my wedding day. I never was a crier until I met FH. That sounds horrible...lol but its true!

Thanks Rae- Im hoping for the big day to have my makeup airbrushed. Iv heard nothing but amazing things about it Smiley smile

It may just be weird to you because you haven't worn it in a while so you are not used to seeing it any more.

I used to do bridal makeup and I use a liner that stays like glue! For real.. I use the back of my hand as a palette and I have to scrub the crap out of my hand to get it off! lol. I used everything waterproof for brides so with a pro you shouldn't worry. Certainly ask the MUA if she uses waterproof though as brides I have photographed hired a "pro" and makeup was everywhere from crying. I have fixed several of my brides as the photographer! I actually have a makeup stash in my camera bag just in case.

Also on a side note as you get older under eyeliner just doesn't work anymore for most. lol I used to and now I don't I feel it makes me look older. Eyes can pop without all the under liner. A slight brush of shadow to create depth works well instead of heavy liner.

I wear my under eyeliner on the outer part of my eye, under my lash line. I love the way it looks on others on the inner eye, but on me it makes me looks weird and my eyes water or get bloodshoot wearing it on the inside. Here's a pic of me on my wedding day, and the second is me with eyeliner on the inside of my eye, makes me look stoned...lol! The last is how I normally wear it, and did on my wedding day as well!

Eyeliner isn't the usual thing to run, it's mascara that usually runs, just fyi. I wear eyeliner outside the eye, top and bottom and inside the lining of the eye, the tear lining? Not sure what it's called. Just make sure you blend it in if you don't like the blunt look of it. Depends on what you are going for but no it doesn't look weird. If you have really large eyes to begin with, then maybe just think about placing the eyeliner on the tear line and not outside. Not sure if this makes sense.

I feel the same way. I find eyeliner on the bottom actually makes my eyes look smaller! Although I had my makeup done professionally for a friends wedding and it looked good in pictures...

On a normal day I wear it on the top lid and I start at the outer point of the bottom lash line and draw inward towards the tear duct lightening up on the pressure, so at about the halfway mark it fades to nothing. I think using the liner on the entire bottom lash line makes your eyes look smaller.

Thanks ladies. I'm only 26 so hopefully my eyes arent getting saggy yet lol. I do have very sensitive eyes so maybe thats why it bothers me sometimes. I never put it on the inner lid (where the tear duct is), I didnt know thats what some people did. I'll probably play around with it sometime but stick with what I have been doing. When it comes time to get it together for the wedding I'll let the pro take the lead. waterproofing for sure!

As far as the racoon eyes, ar eyou using liquid eyeliner? I never use it beacuse I think it is just too easy to smudge. I use a thin line of regular waterproof eyeliner and it works great. It all depends on how much you use and what type. I would just experiment with different types of eyeliner.

I don't usually wear it on the bottom, because it does make my eyes look smaller/squinty-er. If I do the bottom I just do the outer corner like 1/3 or 1/4 of the way in and pull it up for like a cat eye kinda look.

By looking weird, do you think it looks too harsh or something? For the bottom you can get a softer look by using a small brush and just putting shadow there, that's what I did for my wedding..otherwise if you use a pencil or gel you can go over it with the same color shadow to set it so it has less chance of running.

But for everyday (sometimes I think using a pencil on my waterline looks pretty dramatic) I just put a pencil on my upper lashline on the outer third, makes your eyelashes pop! Or you can tightline were you do the same on like the upper waterline..if you haven't done that I'd suggest watching a video on it on youtube..be careful not to poke your eye lol. it's not that hard though..I love using laura mercier cake liner for that.

The reason you don't like it under your eye may have to do with the fact that placing eyeliner underneath your eye helps to make your eyes look wider, side-to-side (thus the squinty-er effect Pan mentioned dealing with above) and placing it over your eye helps your eyes appear bigger/brighter in the vertical sense. Seriously, try and put eyeliner on one eye on the top and the other on the bottom - then take pics and look at the difference. It's crazy how something so simple/minor can make such a huge difference....which is why it's good that you are practicing your makeup now ahead of time so that you can learn through the trial and error and not trying to figure it out the day of Smiley winking

I don't wear eyeliner at all because it looks weird on me. Instead, I get a dark brown or black eyeshadow and use that as my eyeliner. When it wear it under my eyes, I only go about halfway and make sure it's really light. I usually have to use a q-tip to rub some off.

I wear thick dark liner all across my top lid, and then blend it halfway across my bottom lid. If I draw it all the way across my bottom lid, I think it makes my eyes look smaller. As is, I think it makes them look bigger.

Also I'm very blonde and I have blonde eyelashes. On the bottom I barely have any eyelashes at all. So the liner makes a huge difference for me.

I've gone through phases where I like different makeup looks better than others. Right now I'm in a smoky eye every day phase. Smiley smile

Try wearing a color that would make your eyes pop! They say white does that and sometime navy or brown looks better on women than black!

Everyone can wear eyeliner, we just need different shades. Just like with blonde hair and red lipstick; everyone can do it, but different shades! Smiley laugh

I like using eyeliner on the top, and then a liner brush with a coordinating dark shadow on the outer 1/3 of my lower lash line. It adds a little definition without being a harsh line. Sometimes if I'm feeling a little crazy, I'll use the same brush and shadow to smoke out the top liner a bit Smiley smile
