Fabric arch help

Andrea, on June 21, 2018 at 1:18 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12
I want to use fabric to drape over the wooden beams at my venue. From floor to beam, it is 9 feet tall. Where in the heck do I find long enough fabric? Is this going to cost $100’s? What type of fabric should I get?

How much it costs will depend on how many beams and how much you want to drape. Lots of beams? Yes, it could easily cost hundreds of dollars.

Hey, Andrea- do you have any photos of the venue space? I'm having a hard time visualizing this but I think (if what's in my head is accurate) it would looks nice and probably soften up the ambiance Smiley smile

Hi Andrea! I love the idea: it will look so romantic and dreamy.

Maybe try visiting or contacting a local fabric/craft store! They could probably give you an idea of how much fabric you'll need and a price estimate.

Connect with us on Pinterest for some inspiration, too Smiley heart

    I hope this helps!

It depends on what you want to do. The way you wrote it sounds like you want to hang fabric from the beam to the floor. For beams 9 feet off the floor (which isn't very high), it will take 3 yards to hang to the floor plus extra to go over the beam. If you want to have fabric hanging down on both sides of the beam, you will need 7 yards to allow the fabric to puddle a bit on the floor. How many panels you need depends on the width of the beams you need to cover plus the fullness of the fabric you want. Because you normally don't hang the fabric in a straight panel, for a really lush look, the fabric is usually 3 times the width you want to cover. For example if you had 20 (240 inches) feet of beams you wanted to drape, you would need 60 feet of fabic width to get a 3:1 fullness. If the fabric is 150" wide, each panel would cover 50 inches, so you would need 5 panels, each 7 yards long, or 35 yards of fabric. Always order a bit extra for mistakes in hanging and errors in math.As the pp said, Ikea does carry reasonably priced long sheer drapes. If you are allowed to staple or use double sided tape to the bottom edge of the beam, these would be just barely long enough, and being 110 inches wide, each panel would cover about 3 feet of width.https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/90111980/

I found this chiffon fabric on Amazon, it's roughly $25 for 10 yards depending on color. You could get one or two of these and it won't be that expensive.

It depends on the width she needs to cover. Those panels are only 60 inches wide which will cover 20 inches of one beam. Also because they are cut lengths, she can only get one panel out of each 10 yard piece to hang over the beam. She would be wasting 3 yards of fabric from each 10 yards, or just allowing it to puddle on the floor.

$24 for every 20 inches adds up.
