Fake Engagement Ring?

C&S, on April 21, 2015 at 2:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 38

Hi ladies,

I'm looking for a fake diamond (CZ) engagement ring and wedding band to wear on our upcoming mini-moon and honeymoon. I don't want to risk losing my ring / having it stolen so I'm planning to wear a fake set.

Can anyone recommend a good, cheap site to buy something like this? I'm hoping to get one for less than $20, since I'll only wear it for a total of 3 weeks. And I'm in Canada, so websites that ship to Canada would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Mmm, the only thing I could think of would be like costume jewelry, like at Claire's, Icing, or Charming Charlie. It probably wouldn't even be CZ, but it'd be in your price range.

Nordstrom has some nice things. It'll cost over the stand $20 budget, but it will be pretty and most likely not turn you finger green.

I got mine from Amazon, looked for one with good reviews. It's a CZ.

You can find them on amazon. After we got engaged, I told FH I wasn't going to wear the ring because when we started dating years ago I lost his very expensive class ring from high school. I am not a jewelry type of girl at all, and wasn't going to risk losing something worth several thousand dollars. I ordered a CZ ring from amazon and wore that until I felt comfortable and keeping track of it became second nature, then I started wearing the real diamond. lol. There are actually some really cute ones! They are pretty obviously fake. But I wore mine for months and didn't have an issue with it turning green. I heard that with fake rings you should put a coat of clear nail polish over the metal to keep it from turning. It worked for me.

    I don't get this.....

In over a year I haven't had a problem with mine and I've worn it swimming in lakes and oceans, questionable neighborhoods and areas.. Its fully insured should anything happen to it...sure I'd be upset, but will probably leave it in our room safe when we're in ports and excursions (cruise honeymoon) but I couldn't see NOT bringing/wearing it on the honeymoon and go to the trouble of buying a CZ

I have a set for amazon. It was 17 bucks. I'm wearing it until the wedding because I just had my set sized and cleaned.

Maltese, I lost my grandmothers ring in the span of a 3 hour class in college. Never found it. It happens.

I'm getting a fake one, though mine is insured, as it's heirloom 3 generations, and if I lose it I cant go to family holidays anymore, ha.

@ maltese i think it may also depend on where you're going for your honeymoon, and is a personal choice. My ring is a family heirloom, no matter fully insured or not, i wouldn't want to risk anything in loosing it. If i was doing anything that could possibly risk loosing or damaging it I would take it off, replacing it with a cheap replacement for the time being i certainly see as a viable option.

Unless you're going to a seriously crime ridden place, I think you're worrying too much. A wedding band and ering is something most women expect to wear 24/7 for the rest of their lives-- are you really going to wear your fake ring every time you go to the gym, go for a jog, travel to the wrong sie of town, etc?

We are going to Bali, where theft/pick-pocketing is common. I'd rather bring a fake $20 ring, as opposed to having my real ring stolen and having to deal with insurance.

My ring was also designed by FH and custom made, so I can't just go buy the same ring if it's lost/stolen.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Scouring Amazon and Overstock right now...

I would say Amazon as well lol. Don't do Claire's (If they have them there idk) because the rings there will turn your finger green.

You could also try Target or Walmart.

So....I'm with Maltese and I read your comment clarifying.

If you're worried about pick pocketing....why not leave your ring at home and not bother with a fake one?

Both FH and I are getting matching fake rings for our honeymoon. They're silicone and durable as hell. We're going through Qalo and they actually make fun, girly ones in addition to nice manly ones.

My FH and I have Qalo rings, (both in two different colors) we are wearing these when we don't plan to wear our real rings. I think all the suggestions on here of where you can find something to your liking are accurate though.

@Janeen Indonesia is a strongly Muslim country, and they frown on unmarried couples sharing hotel rooms. I have heard of couples being jailed for premartial sex. We will obviously be married, but I would rather wear a ring so there is no doubts about our status.

Honestly, if you're that worried go to your local department store and buy something in the costume jewelry section. I've never heard of anyone getting fake rings to go on vacation. I'm sure you're honeymooning in a tourist area of Bali and there are plenty of married couples that will be wearing their rings.
