Fake flowers for church...yay or nay???

Kim, on July 22, 2016 at 11:03 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15

So, I'm already spending loads of money on flowers...We are getting married in the church and they have 2 "vases" that we could either take and fill ourselves or have a florist do for decoration of the altar. If I do fake flowers, I feel like it wont be super noticeable. I don't want to spend another 100-who knows what on 2 arrangements we will only see for 45 mins. We are already decorating the pews with bows/tulle etc. Help!

I'd go real. Less headache trying to find cheap inexpensive flowers and making them look good together.

Have you thought about getting flowers in bulk from Sam's or a grocery store?

I'm using fake flowers because of allergies, and it's not necessarily cheaper. At least quality is not necessarily cheaper.

Just go to a grocery store, pick up a couple of nice bouquets, and be done with it.

We are doing all fake flowers. if you have the time and patience to get all the fakes and make them yourself, I would do it. We spent less that 175-200 on all 4 bouquets and ceremony decorations.

We are doing fake flowers, and it did save us a lot of money. For me, flowers were something that were not on top of my priority list, so I'm not worrying about them.

Is the church ornate? You might not even need to get flowers for the altar and just use the ones you have on the pews.

In my opinion, both fake and real flowers can look good. Do a little bit of cost comparison to see what would be best for your budget. As other ladies have said, sometimes fake flowers aren't cheaper than real.

FutureMrsJay is absolutely correct. Fakes are not the money saving option a lot of people think they are (unless you go for low quality). I've seen good fake hydrangeas that cost $11/stem, and I've seen some pretty bad ones for $2.99/stem. The life-like qualities are really found in the pricey stems.

Unless you buy on a 50% off sale (or buy seasonal flowers the store is trying to clear out and you're able to get them at 75% off), you'll spend quite a bit of money to outfit an entire wedding with fakes.

In your case, I'd go with live stems in the church, and purchase in bulk.

Real flowers is one of the things I really want. If you don't think people will notice that they're fake then go with fake ones

You'll be a couple of weeks before Easter. If you go the silk flower route, you could get Easter lilies and then donate them to the church. Potted real lilies would be past their bloom by Easter.

Real flowers. We're having 2 floral arrangements on the altar, and they are $150 total. That's really all you need

Why not talk to your florist and see if they can do two arrangements that will do double duty? Basically, the florist delivers them and sets them up in the cases at the altar, and has the cases they're moved to ready to go so you just transport them to the reception venue and plop them in after the ceremony is done.

Thanks for all of the input!!! I have heard Sams club does the bulk flowers so maybe I can do that...I talked to the florist and they want 150 each for the arrangements...I guess I will have to do some comparing then! Thank you all!

We're doing all fake flowers and if someone happens to notice they're fake then their paying to close of attention to the wrong thing, so they won't matter anyways!lol

I didn't think about the extra cost of fake ones (and the time and patience to assemble), but if you really want fake on the altar, no one will know. Seriously- who's walking up to feel or smell them? I can't recall one wedding (in church) that I've been to where I remember what the altar flowers look like. Do what you'd like!
