Fake flowers vs Real flowers

Cecilia, on July 16, 2017 at 11:39 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 22

Hey guys I need your opinion, I am having a small wedding and probably will be only 5 tables in my reception, I was looking to do my own center pieces, what is your feeling about fake flowers? My bouquet and bridal party flowers will be real but I am thinking to use fake for the ceremony and reception. Here is the idea.

I'd always chose fresh over fake, but this isn't something that guests really care about or something that affects their overall experience.

If it's a budget thing, and fake is cheaper, do that.

I love it. I'm thinking about doing the same, real bouquets & fake centerpieces. I don't see why not, you save money and you can keep one for memories or your guest can take one home with them.

I'm doing all fake flowers and going to put in sprigs of fresh lavender. They make such beautiful and realistic looking flowers these days. My thoughts are; 1. I'm going to save a great deal of money, 2. I'm not throwing away a ton of fresh flowers, 3. My bouquet will last forever, 4. I can budget and build everything a little at a time, and 5. I get exactly the flowers I want without worrying that they aren't in season (I'm getting married about a month after peony season and just don't want to compromise).

I did fake centerpieces (that we DIY from Walmart flowers) and real bouquets/ ceremony arrangements. Wayyyyy cheaper and I'm not a flower person so it won't break my heart much. Plus, half of my centerpieces are 2 feet high so I'm not too sure guests are going to critically analyze the flowers. I think the bar will keep them busy enough!

If it's a budget make-or-break, do what you need to do, though I'm of the opinion that fake flowers look cheap. Could you try a cheaper bloom, source from somewhere affordable (@Kate's Costco suggestion was spot-on) or try a non-floral centerpiece?

I'm using fake, but I did spend more to get better looking ones. My girls are going to take any left behind flowers to a home nearby and give them to the folks there to brighten up their rooms.

I am pro real flowers at all times. I totally understand that a lot of people don't really care and feel it's a waste of money. It's just my personal preference. I always notice centerpieces and things like that.

As Kate suggested, look into Costco or Sam's Club. They have a great selection for less than an actual florist.

Personally, I'm team real flowers for life but I totally can see why someone would opt for silk flowers. Flowers are soo expensive!

Fake flowers can be amazing when done right! As excited as we get about decor and details, odds are that our guests well only notice a wee fraction of all the stuff we put into it. What it came down to fit me was cost vs thrift.

Fresh flowers are beautiful, smell nice, set the mood, and are really expensive, depending on what kind you want. If you're not too picky you can do a lot with grocery store bouquets! Colorful grocery store bouquets can be a dazzling mix rust pop as centerpieces and bridal party bouquets, and by not calling ahead specifically for wedding flowers you can save a lot of money, but you will have to do some legwork to hit enough stores and grab enough stores to get a great mix. But if the ones you want aren't in season, local, or the colors you need, consider fake. I'm a DIY nut, so all the fake flowers I'm using will all find other uses after the wedding, because to me it was a waste to spend $600+ on flowers that would all be thrown away after the party, or worse, before, because Texas is too hot. Specialty colors and exotic blooms like orchids raise the cost really fast.

Fake flowers allow the luxury of time that you can't do with real - you can buy them as you go, assemble what you want, and store them until the wedding. There's tons of videos on YouTube on how to make some killer arrangements, and if you time it Michael's and Hobby Lobby have great sales and frequently pass out coupons. :3

Due to allergies we are using fake but they were just as expensive than the real but you can always reside them. It's not the best picture and we were playing with the table settings but here are mine

Here are my fake flowers! I love them and I don't have to worry about them wilting or dying. They are less expensive too!! At the end of the day, if you get great looking fake flowers, no one is going to think any less of your wedding/reception. Don't blow your budget on flowers!

With the size of your inspiration picture I think it would be very expensive whether you got fake or reAl flowers. Mine are fake but much smaller and I only spent like 100-150 on them total (versus a quote for 1500 from a florist)

If you go with real flowers, don't throw them away after. You can donate them to a children's hospital or senior center. That way you'll brighten many more people's day!!

I am team real flowers. I am using my local grocery store's florist. Even though I chose expensive flowers for some of my decorations and bouquets, it ended up being less than realistic fake flowers would have been. I could have saved about $55 to $75 to order the expensive flowers myself, but it was worth it to me to not have to worry about getting a bad batch of flowers three days before my wedding. Also worth it to have a professional make my bouquets (and she is being super nice and not charging labor for most of the bouquets), so I don't have to worry about it.

We're using fake flowers for my reception. On a small budget so it was flowers or open bar. Pretty sure my guests will appreciate the open bar more Smiley winking
