Fake or Real flowers for a May wedding

Ashley, on June 8, 2021 at 7:24 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14
I’m debating whether or not to buy real or do fake flowers. I want to do fuchsia flowers but not sure if there are many options for those in the beginning of May in Wisconsin. Has anyone else done fuchsia flowers in their bouquet and suggest whether or not to keep it real or go fake? Thanks!

Sola Wood Flowers!! I didn’t have to worry about water or wilting or delivery... they’re still delicate but a million times easier. My SIL chose to dye them bc she’s crafty, and she assembled them, but they come dyed and in kits! Super affordable too!!

Very pretty! I’ve seen some really nice bouquets created with sola wood flowers. Honestly I think they’re a good route to take for faux flowers, especially since they’re technically still a “natural” material. Are the cream flowers dyed too? Or is that the natural color?

You can’t beat the look/scent/texture of real flowers. Unless you want something exotic or out of season, fresh flowers are often less expensive actually. Not everyone wants to keep or has space for a fake bouquet. Fiftyflowers.com has inexpensive fresh flowers or try thumbtack.com

The cream was the natural color, but I think they have white tones to dye with too.
The ones with the dark edges are actually wood/bark color. I liked that look, but they have sets without.

Box/bulk stores have some really great flowers too actually, if color isn’t important.
I didn’t want to have to think about wilting it water or delivery since a lot of my wedding was DIY. Fake made so much sense to me for my event.

Nice! It’s interesting how realistic some of them look. Especially the roses and carnations

They’re fantastic quality and super easy to work with. The texture is very foam like, so they’re light weight. It’s a great product. I was actually introduced to them when a boss had gotten me an appreciation bouquet from Sola lol. They came in a paint can and were lightly perfumed.

I think real flowers would be best. But the decision is still all yours and it just depends on what you prefer.

I would talk to some florists about what they can source in that color during that time of year (and the estimated cost for doing so) before making a decision. Don't rule out fresh flowers just because you think the color you want will be hard to find before you talk to a pro.

There are plenty of spring blooms that have bold colors. I know softer colors tend to be more traditional palettes for spring but that's not because its the only thing in bloom then. Talk to a florist!

For what its worth I'm in New Hampshire (also pretty cold with a short growing season) and there were able bold blooms available from our florist in May. I chose a softer color palette but it definitely would have been doable to have fushia blooms.

I’m also getting married in May 2022 and I’ve opted for 100% silk flowers. All bouquets, boutonnieres, and the minimal decorations I’ve chosen to use. Reason being, I need the flowers to serve the purpose of color, rather than actually being a flower if that makes sense. Sounds like you may be feeling the same. I really wanted pink flowers and if they were real I wouldn’t be able to control the color as much. And they will definitely look perfect all day/night as oppose to wilting away. I’m also in Connecticut and nothing is really in season by May.

Advice from me... If you want to do faux flowers then just stick to it and don’t ask for too much advice after the choice is made bc for some reason people love to hate faux flowers. Good luck!

That’s so true! My cousin had faux flowers and I could not tell the different! I think I will do some fake and some real. I’m going to see the price difference and look at the places I can get them. Thank you for the advice Smiley smile
