"Fake" Ring

Amber, on September 14, 2017 at 12:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 81

A friend of mine just told me that she's looking for a fake engagement ring to wear when she travels or for if she ever needs to send her ring in for sizing/repair. I've heard of people wearing silicone rings when they can't wear their actual ring but I've never heard of getting a ring that's similar to their engagement ring but less expensive. Has anyone else done this or heard of it being done?

I've heard of people doing this , I mean you can get a cheap cz ring from Claire's if it's just a placeholder or you can wear a different ring you might already own that's just less expensive

I got mine at piercing pagoda.. it cheap but looks nice.. so if I loose it I wouldn't be too upset because it's only like 30 dollars instead of 5000

I just bought a cheap little band for $40 off of Etsy to wear when I can't wear my e-ring. Sometimes I wear them both together just because.

I have a few friends who have done this. They didn't like traveling with their ring in case of it being lost/stolen/making them a robbery target. My MOH has a fake one that looks almost exactly like her real one she wears when they travel.

I was doing the same thing for our HM to Europe, but since we had to return my damaged e-ring it is now my main ring. lol

I have a Qalo ring that I wear on vacation. I wouldn't want a real looking fake one though if it was for vacation. Not trying to get robbed for a fake diamond

I bought silicone for the honeymoon. My finger is worth too much money to risk anything happening to it lol.

My coworker wears a CZ set when her regular set if off to get the rhodium redone or when the rhodium is getting thin and the nickel in the white gold starts to annoy her finger. I got a plain band to wear when I'm traveling since it's easy to replace if something happens and it won't be a target for robbers.

The only time I take my "real" rings off is at the gym. I understand getting a plain band for traveling or whatever, but it makes no sense to get a CZ ring because you are worried about getting robbed.

Like if you get a flashy enough CZ ring, a robber isn't going to evaluate its authenticity before robbing you. They are going to rob and possibly assault you, so the logic there is a little flawed.

Came here to say exactly what EM said. Thinking a fake ring isn't going to make you a target for robbery or something is completely illogical - if they see it from afar they're going to think it's real.

I leave my real ring at home when I'm on vacation and just wear my band since they aren't soldered. If I ever get them soldered I'll probably just leave the whole thing at home. I know it kinda sucks and feels weird not having a ring on but it doesn't make you any less married.

I ordered one from Berricle. When I had to take my ring in to get dipped I kept panicking when my ring wasn't on my finger, thinking I lost it. The ring really wasn't the same and I still missed my engagement ring but at least the fake one kept me sane. After the wedding I will just do a silicone band in those scenarios and other cases where I don't want to wear my ring for fear of damaging/losing it. Just seemed weird to wear the silicone band before the wedding

I have a silicone band from Qalo that I wear to the gym or anytime I'm doing something very hands on at work. I agree with other posters that I wouldn't get a CZ ring to wear instead because robbers won't be able to tell the difference. I love my qalo ring!

Once married I intend to get a metal band to wear when I travel- I don't like the look of the silicone bands, and if I don't feel safe in a place wearing my real ring I'm not trying to get robbed for a fake ring.... I'll do it because I feel weird without something on my finger now that I'm used to my engagement ring.

If you don't want to be targeted for wearing a wedding ring while traveling, wouldn't it be smart to wear a silicone ring? What if she gets robbed because they think it's her real ring, but it's really $20.

Depending on where she travels it may not be a good idea. If it's still flashy, people may still steal it not realizing it's fake. I love my silicone rings and I wear them for exercising and when we travel.

My BF and he fiancee (Getting married in 3 weeks!) have a pool and frequent it, so they have Qalo rings that they where when going to the pool, which I think is brilliant because who wants to drain and seach a pool for your real ring when if you loose you Qalo ring it whatever. Plus the chlorine isn't great for the metals.
