Fall Wedding vs. Summer Wedding

Nicole, on June 5, 2019 at 3:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
I’d love to hear other’s thoughts/experiences with a summer wedding vs a fall wedding. Our favorite month is October and would LOVE to have a fall wedding, but our wedding is in Pittsburgh where we risk really cold, rainy or even snowy weather

I think it depends on the area & the venue! We love the Summer and are typically busy in the Fall with hunting season. In Denver, fall is really unreliable (as is Spring & Winter) and even Summer can be at times. Our reception will be indoors, but our ceremony & cocktail hour will be outside. So we are taking precautions and bought fans for guests, we are having iced flavored water out before the ceremony, and putting out sunscreen/bug spray and keeping our ceremony shorter (15-20 minutes). But I love fall decor and think the crisp air is really nice then too!

I personally love fall, but live in the Mid west so I had to settle for a end of summer beginning of fall date! Everyone I have talked though says my wedding is in the fall so I'm going with it lol! I prefer fall just because it is cooler outside and the weather is somewhat predictable as in we will have decent temps whether it be 60-80 degrees. Personally I would like it to be around 70ish on my wedding day! To me I think summer is too hot in my area; I don't like getting sun burned and being overly hot.

I personally love warmer weather so i was shooting for a spring or summer wedding.

i think fall can be really lovely though with autumn colors. weather is just unpredictable even with weather forecasts it may never come out the same or one week it can change from the next.

so basically, go with what you like Smiley smile some brides want warmer weather and others don't mind it not being so. but i can tell you that wedding season usually includes the summers so prices may be higher then.

If you're having an indoor wedding, having a fall wedding shouldn't be an issue! The same can be said for a summer wedding. Keep guests' comfort in mind as you make your decisions, and you should be fine Smiley smile

We chose summer because it is our favorite time of year. We live in New England so fall (and spring and winter) can be really unpredictable. Also, the whole fall wedding, in my opinion and where we live, is extremely common and overdone. Every single one of my cousins and FH's cousins that have gotten married within the last 5 years (about 10 couples) all had fall weddings and I just felt like they all kind of ended up looking and feeling the same eventually. I know summer weddings are also super common but in our circle of family/friends and where we live, fall weddings are way more popular so we wanted to do something fresh.

It really does depend on where you live and your personal preference. In the Northeast, fall is a beautiful time of year with generally mild weather in September and October. It's my and FH's favorite time of year, so it was a no-brainer for us to pick an October date. I really dislike the summer heat, especially with the humidity that we get, so I personally never wanted a summer wedding.

I'm having a fall wedding. One of the reasons that I wanted fall was because the humidity is usually lower (I'm in PA) and I have an increase on "good hair day". Plus I like fall colors more so than summer. We are having a mid-Oct wedding, which usually doesn't have any snow in PA (the earliest snow storm that I can recall was the Frankenstorm that happened in Halloween weekend in 2010/2011.

Try for the 1st weekend of October. In 2020 it's Saturday the 3rd. It might be hard to find a venue so get to searching!
I love the fall but we are getting married in the summer. July 4th, 2020. It's going to be hot and humid where I live but it's our favorite holiday and we celebrate our anniversary of being together on it.

I'm having a summer wedding. We wanted to keep our anniversary date.

I think it really depends on the venue. If you want a fall wedding go for it! Just make sure your guests will be comfortable indoors!

Weather is so unpredictable these days I feel like it’s impossible to plan around, so I’d choose fall if it’s what you’d prefer. We had a summer wedding (not because I love summer [im a fall fan-girl through and through!] but because it just worked better with our (and our families’) work schedules. There’s always some worry or another — with summer I was worried about a heat wave or a summer thunderstorm. We had a lot of both last year so I was pretty nervous . But, I did all you really can do— plan for contingencies : Heat plan, rain plan etc. and hope for the best. By the grace of someone or some thing we had the most perfect weather imaginable— not too hot, good amount of cloud coverage, light breeze . Can’t win ‘em all but I’ll take what I can get! All you can do is plan your best, have back up plans, and hope for the best! There’s always going to be that *something*, so I’d follow your heart!

Hi Nicole! Have you and your FS given more thought to a summer vs winter wedding? Which do you think you will go with?

When was your wedding?? I want some of that perfect weather! I’m trying to decide between Sept 19th and Sept 26th in NYC. I know it’s only 7 days apart, but early fall is fickle 😂
