Family Friend Officiant

CourtneyBrittain, on May 4, 2019 at 11:58 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 10

We are asking a dear family friend of ours to be our officiant today, yay!

For those of you who asked someone you knew vs hiring a "random" pastor/priest/officiant, did you do anything to make it special? How much do you pay a family friend?

We had my Godfather officiate for us. We knew he wouldn't take money, but he joked about dressing up like the Pope for our wedding, so we had a custom bobblehead made of him dressed like a priest. He's a total goof and absolutely loved it.

We also had out ceremony script printed and bound into a hardcover book that he could use for the wedding and keep as a memento (he requested it). We out in a page thanking him for being an important part of our special day and added in a page of pictures of us in the back.

Oh wow, that is so sweet! I love the personal touch of giving him a custom made bobble head, that's hilarious! I am sure it was a wonderful expression he had on his face when he opened it.

My Aunt is going to be ours. I called her and asked but I have not figured out what to pay/give her yet. I was just thinking king about that today.

My Dad is performing our ceremony. We are not paying him (because he wouldn’t take it). We are going to give him a gift (a different one than a father of the bride gift), but we haven’t figured out what yet.

One of my fiancé's best friends will be our officiant. We've offered to reimburse him for any costs that he accrues in doing so for us. My FH is also treating him as another groomsmen by getting him a gift and setting him up with a suit.

We had a friend do ours. We didn't pay him, but offered to pay for the certification (he didn't accept). We bought him a gift and got him a leather notebook that we put the script in, which he kept to use for work. It worked out well for us.

My fiance's grandfather is doing ours. I'm not sure what we'd give him, I know he probably won't take money, but honestly he's so excited I'm sure a gift would pale in comparison anyway 😂

FH's uncle is officiating our wedding. It started out as a half-joke and then we became serious about it. He is doing it as his wedding gift to us. We will probably get him a small token gift as a thank you, but he would definitely not accept payment.

May be a silly question, but how did you go about doing the printing/binding into a book? That’s such a great idea!
