Husband's family lives in NC, my immediate family lives in NC and extended lives in NM, CO, and FL. Our immediate families live 3 hours apart and husband lived in the middle of them where we went to school. So that's where we had it, where we met, fell in love and where he lived. For everyone else it was a destination wedding. For me it was easy to plan because there are a lot of great vendors and resources in this area. Try not to make it a your side vs. his side thing but more of a practical/logical side. Which place is the most special for you two as a couple? That's where it should be. Good luck.

I'm having a similar issue. My family is from Vermont and his from Florida, we live in North Carolina. FMIL offered us their back yard garden as our location. We're on a very limited budget and any money saved has been so helpful. We were originally going to have it here but when my parents said they wouldn't travel (dad works 50+hours a week and my mother has physical limitations) I guess I figured, might as well try and enjoy the day even if my parents won't be there. I love the location and my FIL's have been invaluable. Do what makes *you and FDH happy*

So I got engaged to my fiance November 2019. We have been together almost 8 years now. So I am more than ready to get married at this point! However, to start the planning process has been extremely difficult because I don't know where to have the wedding. I am from Indiana. Majority, if not all of my family lives there. My family is much bigger than his and I don't think most of them could afford to travel. He is from Illinois. His immediate family lives there and has a few stragglers in other states. His family is much smaller, but also able to pay to travel anywhere. And we live in Texas.

I would love to have the wedding in Texas. None of our family or friends have visited us in the two years we have lived here. And it makes things easier to plan something like this where I can see the venue in person instead of planning from another state. Its probably a small to medium wedding (guessing around 100), but I just dont want to get a medium venue and none of my family show up if they can't afford it. Which I totally get and understand. Its just so hard to plan for the unknown.

I would love to get married this year. The sooner the better so we can start a family, get a house, etc. But it stresses me out that its already March and I don't have anything planned because this is the main dilemma. Part of me even thought to just forget about an average wedding and do something extremely small with whoever can make it. I just don't know how I feel about that. I don't want to have regrets.

    Thoughts?

First wedding, my family lives in Texas and his lives in California. Since my parents paid for the wedding, and his family was small relative to mine, we had it in Texas.

This wedding is different. His family lives in Massachusetts and we live in Virginia. He wants a beach destination wedding but I got to choose where. So I picked San Diego, California. I have family in California who couldn’t attend my first wedding, so this will be nice. I’m having 2 matrons of honor, each one will coordinate their cities, I will coordinate any others. This already sounds logistically crazy, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. FaceTiming will be a must 💖
