Family isn't coming to my wedding

Twinsiesmum, on March 2, 2022 at 9:25 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 7
I’m so bummed that my mother and father won’t be there at my wedding. They basically said we may or may not be there and it’s really no reason why. On top of that my sister said she isn’t coming because it’s her birthday weekend. I’m so emotional about it and feel like that don’t care how I feel.

Don't stress about this now. Your wedding is more than a year from now, so nobody knows their plans. Yes, it's your immediate family do hopefully it would be an automatic yes and it sucks that they're not committing. But still send them official invites next year (around February) and they can give a firm RSVP then.

The way I see it, you have two options. Send them an invitation and hold them to the RSVP date. Do not remind them or chase after them. They either decide to go or they don't. Or your second option would be to talk to them and find out what is going on and approach it this way. "When I imagined my wedding day, I never thought you (Mom, Dad or Sis) would not be there. I want to give you the opportunity to be honest with me about your reasons for not attending." Then listen, and be prepared. You may not like their answers, or even consider them valid. But at least you would know.

Thank you! After writing this post I did talk to my parents and they said they might be moving out the country but didn’t really seemed too enthusiastic about coming anyway. He said “and that if y’all make it” (getting married) I felt that was hurtful and didn’t see why he would say that. My sister however isn’t budging on its my birthday weekend and that’s more important to her.

Geesh sounds like they aren't great family support anyway, I'd forget about it and just be happy with your engagement and the people who care about you Smiley smile

That is hurtful. It is admirable that you talked to them about it. At least now you know. I am sorry 😞

How selfish of your family. I'm so sorry you experienced this.

My parents/sister wouldn't have dreamed of missing my wedding, or me missing my sister's. That's lousy.

I’m sorry. That is just plain crappy. Family are the ones who should support you, but sometimes it’s not the case. Celebrate with those that are happy and take time for you. In the end, it’s their loss.
