Family photos- wedding timeline

on December 22, 2020 at 5:29 PM Posted in Planning 1 6
Hi WW!

Trying to plan out our photo timeline for the wedding. FH and I are doing a first look. Thinking of doing family photos before the ceremony so that we have more time after for the reception. Has anyone done this or is planning to do this? Tips?

So for our wedding we did a first look. Prior to the ceremony we took photos of me with my side of the bridal party, my husband with his side, a first look with my dad and I, and my husband and I's first look. We did our family photos after the ceremony, full group bridal party photos, and some more photos of my husband and I. I would say it took us about 30-45 minutes after the ceremony while our guests were enjoying cocktail hour.

I think you and I will not be doing a first look. So, to save time, we will be doing pictures with our wedding parties and respective families prior to the ceremony (ie, him with his groomsmen and him with his parents and siblings.... and me with my bridesmaids and my parents and siblings). That way, right after the ceremony we can quickly get photos of us with both families then send them on to cocktail hour while FH & I do our pics.

So we are are doing a first look. From what I have experienced in past weddings, basically all photos are taken before ceremony (couple, bridal party, parents) and then after the ceremony it takes maybe 15 minutes to gather guests for family pictures.

We're doing a first look! We want to get all of our family photos out of the way so we won't have to take as many after the ceremony. This way, we'll just have to take whatever photos weren't captured beforehand done.

If you aren't doing a first look, I would have you both take pictures separately with your bridal party, individual portraits, and photos with your respected families (you and your family, his with his). Then after the ceremony, get pictures with you both with both families, and the bridal party, and couple's portraits!

We’re doing a first look as well. Almost all the bridal portraits, bride & groom pictures, bride + groom party pictures will be taken before the ceremony. We will also be doing pictures with my parents and his parents beforehand because they will already be there early. All other family we will be taking pictures with after the ceremony, but that shouldn’t take too incredibly long. I didn’t really want anyone else coming super early just for that purpose.
