Family unable to attend

Lauren, on August 20, 2021 at 10:59 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 14
How are you honoring family who are unable to attend wedding? Elderly grandparents who can’t attend.
I’m having a table to honor deceased loved ones but not sure how to incorporate those still living and unable to attend. I want to have a sign but not sure on wording so it doesn’t make it seem live they’ve passed

We won’t be “honoring” those unable to attend in any way. Instead we will be live broadcasting the ceremony, so everyone can be with us in some form.

We did what Cece mentioned. We live-streamed our ceremony so guests out of country/state that couldn’t come could still participate.
I also FaceTimed my grandparents as I was getting ready.

Update: elderly family is unable to FaceTime or watch a live stream. So this is not an option

In that case, I don’t think I would really do anything to honor them at the ceremony. The purpose of the wedding is to honor you and your fiancé‘s relationship. If you would like those individuals to know you are thinking of them on your special day, I would send them a text message or give them a quick phone call that morning, just to let them know they are in your thoughts. A personal message or phone call from you well always be more special and more appreciated.

What is your goal? Do you want a public declaration of honor or is a private remembrance more appropriate? If you need something public, you could display their wedding photo(s) (if this applies; I don't know if these missing grandparents are married to each other) on the cake table or something. If you are having programs, you could list their names.

Or if private works better, you could carry a small memento from them attached to your bouquet, sewn inside your dress, or in your pocket. Have you asked them what they would prefer?

Ok. I am sorry I don't have any suggestions for words to honor them.

I’m not asking for the purpose of the wedding, I’m asking for help on wording for a sign

I think it would be very strange to have a sign for people who are still living. Maybe have your officiant mention it at the beginning: "Welcome to everyone who is here with us in person, and welcome to Aunt Sally and Uncle Bob, who are with us virtually."

We aren’t doing anything either. While we would love to have certain people there, it isn’t feasible for many reasons and we aren’t seeking other alternatives.

Hi ! We made a speech at the beginning of the party, when everyone took their seats. We welcomed those who were there and we mentioned that we are also thinking about those who couldn't come - our grandmothers and my dad. That was it. Hard to give the exact words as it was in Polish and French ;-) I also did a special frame on the wall where we had wedding pictures or our parents, grand parents and great grand parents.

We brought up our deceased loved ones in our ceremony script. I've scene people leave open chairs with their pictures in a frame. For people who just can't make it I would maybe have someone livestream it for them.

Maybe have it recorded and send it to them via DVD? It'll be a little late to them, but they will get to see it and you'll also have a copy of it.
