Fastest way to get a nice wedding dress?

b, on January 1, 2016 at 12:14 AM Posted in Planning 0 24

Happy new year lovelys! I went to look for dresses today and the lady has me a tad stressed saying I need 8 months to get the dress ordered/altered/etc.

Any tips on the best way to get a dress faster? I'm thinking off the rack (rare to find my size) and expedited ordering. I am located in northern SF bay area Cali. Thanks!

Not for nothing, but those people are full of sh*t. Sorry to be so blunt. I had two dresses, and I ordered the both online from David's Bridal. They were stunning, reasonable, and arrived at my house within six weeks of the order. One arrived in 2 weeks, it depends on what's in stock. Do not order from Asia..you will be screwed. Also, please look into alternative options, like off the rack gowns (not bridal) at places like Nordstrom's. They have awesome dresses. Last option is tell the b*tch who told you that....that she's losing an $XX sale and you'll be taking your business elsewhere. That often ups the ante. Good luck. You're dress is out there somewhere.

I got mine from Anthropologies BHDLN and it came in less than a week. It'll take some time for alterations though...

I disagree with Karen. It depends on where you shop. If you want a designer dress, you will likely have to find a sample. I order d my Watters dress over memorial weekend and it arrive the week of Christmas for my February wedding. So that was seven months.

I've heard that David's Bridal can get dresses for you quickly. Best to go to a large chain store like David's rather than designer boutiques at this point, especially if you are not "sample size".

David's Bridal is your best bet if you're going to try for something not off the rack.

Off the rack at an evening gown store or Dillard's, something like Macy's or Nordstroms, are also options.

Consider bridesmaid or prom dresses in white too! You might be able to get a good deal and and be able to get it quick!

I ordered my dress from a small bridal shop and she said it would take 6 months and it took 5.5 months. The OP did not give us enough details as to where she was shopping so it very well could take that long.

OP, what is your size, check out preowned, tradsey, etc as well.

I bought my dress from a bridal consignment store. They had many options in all sizes, new, sample and previously wore. All were in great condition and looked like new, at a big discount. I found a few in my area by googling "my area bridal consignment store".

I got mine at a shop in Fremont, and it really did take 7 months to come in, and thankfully it didn't need much altering because the seamstress said I'd be cutting it close otherwise. I know there's a David's bridal somewhere around Martinez, that's a good place to start. Bay Area Bridal Fairs also have samples on sale.

I bought my dress at Davids Bridal and it is Davids Bridal brand and it took less than a month to arrive. You could do alterations immediately if needed and have the dress ready for your March wedding.

I went to DB. I only had about 4 months from dress shopping to wedding, so I hear you. They can do a lot to rush your dress, but I fell in love with a new design and bought off the rack.

Mine was from BHLD too, and it definitely arrived quickly. But as alietta said, lots of alterations required.

I wouldn't stress! Sure, you need to make a decision within the next couple weeks but everyone has told me that it takes 4-6 months to order and then alterations 1-2 months...Sounds like this woman was trying to pressure you into making a purchase, which is just wrong! Yes, you're cutting it close but it's still doable! You may have to look elsewhere for alterations if you need them done faster.

We got ours from a wedding consignment store. Not only did we save money, but we were able to take them home the same day.

I love Tradesy as well for finding great dresses at reduced prices and also buying sample dresses. I have two dresses and purchased my first one as a sample and discontinued design. The second one came from Tradesy. Both I had within two weeks of the purchase.
