I don't think any bride intentionally picked a lame song to dance to with their father... sappy yes, lame no. Maybe your version of lame is "overdone", sentimental, or traditional?

Pick a song that means something to the two of you - from a favorite movie, or artist, or show.

    Taste is subjective.

Of course no one intentionally picks a lame song maybe I should have chosen the words you used because yes! All of those things. I listen to the songs on you tube and they are just not me and I’m just not a daddy’s girl I’m a grown woman. So I’m looking for a different option that’s not so mushy if anyone has any ideas?

My dad and I danced to If I Had the World to Give by the Grateful Dead because he's a huge Deadhead. Our 2nd choice was Fathers and Daughters by Paul Simon! I also did not want any of the traditional "sappy" songs because that's just not the relationship my dad and I have. We're close and I love him but I had no desire to dance to a sappy song. And I feel like a lot of the top father daughter dance songs are actually love songs which I wasn't a fan of.

I love this, you are on my page! I was also thinking about the Paul Simon song, it’s cute and not overly sappy. I will have to listen to the other song you mentioned. Thank you!!

I hope to dance with my father to My How You've Grown by 10,000 Maniacs. Not sure if he will be able to with dementia, but he took my to my first concert and it's a special band for us. Plus it makes sense. Smiley smile

I'm considering using the Eva Cassidy version of the song "Songbird" at some point in my wedding. Very possibly for father/daughter dance since the album this was on was one my dad played a lot when I was a kid. The lyrics really speak to me.

We’re still on the fence but I think the top contender right now is Teach Your Children by Crosby Stills Nash and Young. It’s not sappy at all, it’s actually really saying “you’ll argue and drive each other nuts, just be patient, you’re both on your own journey for truth” which definitely suits our relationship at times 😅

My dad and I decided that we weren't going to do a sad song. We're both criers, so it would just turn into a waterworks fest. We're dancing to "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder.

I went to a wedding over the summer and they danced to "Brown Eyed Girl" and it was super cute!

I haven't officially committed but I am also 100% NOT okay with the more common "daddy's little girl" themed songs and thank goodness my dad agreed with me! My top choice currently is "You've Got A Friend" by James Taylor cause the whole message of the song is "whenever you need me, no matter what, I'll always be there for you" and I thought that was a very fitting message!
