Father Daughter Dance Practice

Kylie, on June 30, 2016 at 1:37 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

Is anyone else practicing their Father Daughter dance? Or have you? My father and I have never danced before, so I suggested we practice. I feel like it will be super awkward to dance with my father in the living room, practicing. But less awkward than not really knowing what we're doing when we start at the wedding. Seriously. Does everyone do the hold one hand and put the other on the shoulder? Or both around the shoulder? I'm just so lost when it comes to these dances!

We did a waltz for our dance and we practiced a few times before wedding day.

We did not practice, it was just natural for us. When you're in the moment, it's amazing what you can do.

Mrs.-2-Mom - I changed the avatar Smiley smile and thank you. Perhaps we'll wing it. We've never danced before though. Ever...

@mimitrue- My dad and I plan to do the waltz but never only did it when I was a kid in the living room, me standing on his feet! Did you watch a YouTube video or did you and your dad already know how to dance to the waltz?

    Girlllllllllllllllllllllllllllll thank you! :-)

It might make you feel more comfortable if you practice, it will be weird, but at least you practiced!

FH and I are taken ballroom dance lessons. My father and mother are adept at ballroom dance. Practicing is great if you're not opposed to it. We practice anywhere--the kitchen, the living room. It's nice to practice by moving around the house and around obstacles with traveling steps as you might travel around other couples on the dance floor. And yes, of course we use dance stances--they differ slightly based on each dance. I strongly recommend you find a local dance studio (not something like Arthur Murray) and take a lesson or two before-hand. You don't need to be pros, but one or two lessons should help you feel much more comfortable. You do still have time to learn a dance or two before your wedding date, if you want to take a few more lessons, but I know how time crunched us July gals are getting.
