father daughter dance songs that aren't too.... lovey?

Lucy, on February 23, 2015 at 4:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

All the suggested father daughter dance songs are so... like lovey dovey. Which is fine, but I feel like me and my dad were never super super close. So while we still want to do a dance together, an over emotional song would just be awkward and weird for us. Does anyone have any suggestions on good songs but not too emotional?

TIA Smiley smile

    I'm having this same problem.

Every song that I get suggested is like a "Daddy's little girl" song, and my Dad I do not have that kind of relationship AT ALL, it would make me so uncomfortable!

Following in case there are some good suggestions!

One that I considered doing with my dad was So Happy Together (originally by the Turtles) but using the Piano Guys version. It's upbeat and kind of fun. My dad and I ended up going with a more lovey song (You Are So Beautiful) but the other one is a good option. Here's the youtube link:

We did "My Wish" by Rascall Flats. It is a bit lovey but not too much of the "daddy's little girl" thing. I danced with my stepdad so I know the struggle!

Ditto. I barely saw my dad most of the days. When he wasn't working, he was in the basement drinking or outside avoiding my mother. So I have no idea what song we will use and I haven't hugged my dad since I was a child so this should be VERY awkward. Not looking forward to it.

I picked "when you need me" by Bruce Springsteen. It's not super lovey, but basically gives off the Dad will be there for you no matter what type of theme. Also my Dad loves Bruce Springsteen!

"What a Wonderful World" the Eva Cassidy version is beautiful. Not too lovey dovey at all.

I don't have a song to suggest for dads, but just wondering - if some aren't close to their dad, why do a dance at all? I'll be dancing with my mom and she picked "What a Wonderful World."

Daddy is a sexual term or what children call Fathers.

How about When you wish upon a star?

Following for ideas. I'm pretty close with my dad, but the daddy's little girl theme just seems too blech. Too much cute mixed with a bit of skeeve.

@Andi Daddy is not a sexual term unless you make it that way.

I'm using Unforgettable by Nat Cole. I was in the same boat too and I thought this one worked best.

It Won't Be Like This For Long by Darius Rucker is nice without being overly sentimental. There's also My Girl by the Temptations. Frank Sinatra's The Way You Look Tonight is a good choice too. Hope these help!

I think my dad and I are going to be "a bird without wings" by Celtic Thunder. It's a sweet song but doesn't scream daddy/daughter dance.

I'm not close to my Dad at all. We are doing a Father/Daughter dance because I'm sure it would hurt his feelings if I were to tell him that I didn't want to do it. Plus if you decide not to do it just because you're not that close you may regret it once he is gone and you can't get that back....

I have no idea either. I have a good relationship with my dad, but even still the overly sentimental stuff is really not my thing. I'm considering telling my dad he has to pick the song, and not even worrying about it.

My dad and I are going to do My Girl. It's cutesy but not lovey dovey. My dad and I always listened to oldies, esp Motown so it fits.
