Any suggestions for songs for a father-daughter dance, where the father and daughter don't really express emotions with each other, and don't know how to dance? I'm at a loss. Any suggestions for songs for a father-daughter dance, where the father and daughter don't really express emotions with each other, and don't know how to dance? I'm at a loss. All the songs are "my little girl is all grown up and leaving me" themed, and those are just sad. My dad and I have never had a very emotional relationship, and he's been ignoring this question when I ask for suggestions. My mom says he still wants to do it, but wants to practice. I told her that's why I've been asking him about it for two months! Anyone in a similar situation?

My Dad refused to tell me what song we were going to dance to too! I knew he didn't want to do a 'typical song.' He ended up picking This is the Day by the The, because we both love Empire Records. It was perfect.

These are such great suggestions! My mom must have told him he needed to stop being difficult, because I got an email this morning saying "Ok, here's a couple that sound nice and should be easy to dance to" and the first on the list was "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. He came up with one of my favorite songs on his own! I think I was forgetting who's genes I got my anxiety disorder from - he was probably just as scared as I was and that's why he was putting it off. Back to crying in my cubical...

I was so excited because I love Disney & had picked the Tarzan song, "You'll be in my Heart".... but I was riding in the car with my daddy recently and he played that "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" but Iz the Hawaiian man and he said, "This is what I want to dance to with you," so of course that is what I am going to do since it is his moment, too, and if it is even more meaningful to him, it will be that much more for me too.

My dad and I have never been super close but whenever I was scared about storms or anything he was my go too lol. But growing up, I always said I'm going to use the song Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle, I would say it's an emotional song it makes my dad cry every time he listens to it but since I was about 4 or 5 years old I promised my dad I would use that song and it's still the chosen song for our father-daughter dance. Smiley smile

We are doing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. The Hawaiian version. I loved Wizard of Ox as a kid and watched it for the first time with my Dad. Plus he loves that version. I made suggestions and that's the one he picked.

@Kaytea and @ErinWood, I love that version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Just have to find something slow and simple because neither of us can dance. At all! Haha anyone know of a place where we could get one last minute lesson in north jersey? Lol

My dad and I danced to Wild World by Cat Stevens, it still has theme of "my lil' girl is leaving" but it's not has sappy (IMO).
