Father daughter dance

Taylor, on February 17, 2021 at 5:12 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 13
My father and I aren’t very close. I don’t really want a song that talks about everything a dad did for a daughter, because he didn’t do any of those things. Does anyone have any recommendations?

There are tons and tons of songs that don't talk about this you can choose from.
There isn't any rule that states you have to pick such a song. As long as you puck one that have appropriate lyrics ...
Many fathers-daughters and mothers-sons danced to Michael Jackson,Bee Gees, Tina Turner, etc ... I would suggest you to watch father-daughter and mother-son dances posted on youtube, there are more than necessary videos that will show you that you can pick almost anything you want.

My dad and I are dancing to wildflowers by Tom Petty. We aren’t particularly close either so I totally get it!

One idea is Kenny G that is completely instrumental, really beautiful and has that wedding vibe ❤️

Pick a pretty instrumental waltz that no one knows the lyrics to, and dance. That ( not matching lyrics to person) is the traditional way, so your Dad will think it is fine.

I like Judith's suggestion about picking a song without lyrics! I think it's an easier idea with a lot more options.

You could also just not have a father daughter dance. If you aren't that close to him, and you both don't find it necessary to do it, then don't! There's no rule that says you have to have one.

Have you considered skipping it? I have a distant relationship with my dad and so I am skipping the dance and also walking myself down the aisle. He will still be a guest.

I feel this in my soul. I love my dad, but he's in and out of my life. I see him maybe every six months just to try and check in, but nothing super close and only if I make the effort to see him. I'm way closer to my step-dad, but I know my dad would be offended if I didn't do a dedicated dance with him.

There's a song called Cecilia and the Satellite that I'd like to dance to and have my step-father step in halfway (and have my FH and my daughter start dancing at that time too), but another idea is you could ask your dad what song he may want to dance to? Pick an instrumental song as a back-up and give him a genre and a deadline.

It's completely your choice, but I just wanted to add to the chorus of, "you can skip the father-daughter dance if you don't want to do one." It's really OK not to do it, even if your father wants to. He doesn't actually get a say.

I'm a lot closer to my stepdad and I'm doing a father daughter dance with him. But to avoid the drama my dad will create, I'm giving him a dance too.

If you are not close, skip the dance. It's not required. If you feel you must have one, pick a very neutral song such as What A Wonderful World.

Your wedding, your boundaries. Don't let other people's drama dictate your day.
